About The Position

The Platform Director of Marketplace is accountable for defining, executing, and scaling the enterprise marketplace strategy and growth roadmap. This role provides strategic and operational leadership for the marketplace platform, overseeing seller acquisition, performance, and integration across digital channels. Acting as both an internal thought leader and external ambassador, the Platform Director builds and manages strategic partnerships with brands, retailers, and sellers while driving performance through analytics, governance, and cross functional execution. This role supports executive leadership in shaping marketplace strategy, translates strategic objectives into operating plans, and leads teams responsible for delivering sustainable growth, customer value, and profitable expansion of the marketplace ecosystem.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Economics, Marketing, Technology, or a related field required or equivalent work experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in merchandising, marketplace, e commerce, platform, digital commerce, or related business roles.
  • 5+ years of people leadership experience managing managers and/or cross functional teams.

  • Experience scaling a marketplace or platform business with significant GMV or seller growth.
  • Experience negotiating and managing strategic partnerships with external sellers or brands.
  • Advanced experience with marketplace platforms, analytics tools, and seller management systems.
  • MBA or other advanced degree.

Responsibilities

  • Define and execute the short  and long term marketplace strategy and growth roadmap, aligned with enterprise digital and commercial objectives.
  • Identify new marketplace business models, revenue streams, and expansion opportunities across categories, sellers, and customer segments.
  • Establish scalable operating models to support marketplace growth while maintaining quality, compliance, and customer experience standards.
  • Lead seller acquisition, onboarding, and lifecycle management strategies to drive assortment growth and seller performance.
  • Establish policies, standards, and operating processes governing seller performance, compliance, and experience.
  • Partner with technology teams to influence platform capabilities, integrations, and enhancements that enable scale and efficiency.
  • Define and own marketplace KPIs, dashboards, and performance reporting across seller growth, GMV, profitability, customer experience, and operational health.
  • Drive data based decision making by identifying trends, risks, and opportunities across the marketplace portfolio.
  • Partner with finance to support forecasting, budgeting, and performance reviews.
  • Partner closely with merchandising, marketing, finance, technology, legal, and operations teams to ensure marketplace offers are visible, integrated, and optimized across all digital channels.
  • Align marketplace priorities with broader digital, merchandising, and customer experience strategies.
  • Serve as the internal and external ambassador for the marketplace platform, representing the business with sellers, brands, technology partners, and industry stakeholders.
  • Lead negotiations and ongoing management of strategic partnerships and key seller relationships.
