About The Position

The Director of Marketing and Communications for the Sanford Stem Cell Institute at UC San Diego is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy for the institute and its six centers. This role involves leadership in setting strategic priorities, overseeing public outreach campaigns, and enhancing the visibility and reputation of the institute both locally and internationally. The Director will supervise the marketing and communications team and collaborate with various stakeholders to promote the institute's mission and initiatives.

Requirements

  • Nine years of related experience, education/training, or a Bachelor's degree in a related area plus five years of related experience/training.
  • Advanced knowledge and understanding of all aspects of communications, including strategic planning for various media venues.
  • Experience using computer applications for web production, image handling, publishing, and design.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal communications, active listening, and political acumen skills.
  • Solid supervisory skills to select, train, lead, direct, guide, motivate, and evaluate staff.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Six or more years of progressive management/leadership experience.
  • Experience working with community-based organizations and health-services providers.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy plan for the Sanford Stem Cell Institute and its six centers.
  • Lead the marketing and communications team, providing guidance and direction on complex communications issues.
  • Collaborate with Health Sciences Communications to develop and share news, content, and campaigns highlighting key initiatives.
  • Oversee public outreach campaigns to enhance awareness of stem cell science and clinical trials.
  • Work with high-profile civic, business, and community organizations to grow the institute's presence and reputation.
  • Plan, coordinate, and execute strategic communications and marketing programs.
  • Advise on effective communications involving various disciplines such as writing, editing, and visual communications.
