About The Position

The Director of Manufacturing Engineering provides enterprise leadership for manufacturing process excellence, automation, and asset reliability across Overhead Door Corporation’s U.S. manufacturing footprint. This role is responsible for developing and executing a unified manufacturing engineering and maintenance strategy that enables world-class productivity, equipment uptime, and technological advancement. The leader will integrate engineering, maintenance, and facilities functions under a single vision — driving automation, digitalization, and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) within the OHD Lean Operating System. This position blends strategic system design with hands-on execution, ensuring that process capability, reliability, and cost effectiveness improve year over year across all sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, Industrial, Electrical, or Manufacturing Engineering (master’s preferred).
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing engineering, maintenance, or operations leadership.
  • Demonstrated success implementing automation and TPM in multi-site manufacturing environments.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional technical teams through large-scale transformation initiatives.
  • Deep knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, reliability engineering, and digital factory technologies (MES, IoT, robotics).
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% across U.S. manufacturing sites.

Responsibilities

  • Manufacturing Engineering Leadership Lead the enterprise Manufacturing Engineering strategy to improve process capability, throughput, and cost efficiency.
  • Define and deploy standard manufacturing methods, best practices, and process documentation across all plants.
  • Partner with Operations and Product Engineering to ensure manufacturability and scalability of new products.
  • Oversee major capital investments, layout optimization, and capacity planning initiatives.
  • Automation, Digitalization & Smart Factory Develop and implement the corporate automation roadmap to drive productivity, consistency, and labor efficiency.
  • Lead digital transformation through implementation of smart manufacturing systems, MES, and IoT technologies.
  • Integrate equipment monitoring, predictive analytics, and real-time performance dashboards.
  • Evaluate and deploy robotics, vision systems, and advanced automation to improve safety and reduce waste.
  • Maintenance & Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) Own enterprise maintenance and reliability strategy, driving TPM deployment and asset lifecycle management.
  • Establish preventive and predictive maintenance programs focused on reducing unplanned downtime and maintenance cost.
  • Standardize maintenance planning, CMMS utilization, and spare parts management across plants.
  • Drive MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) and MTTR (Mean Time to Repair) improvements year-over-year.
  • Facilities & Capital Planning Oversee facilities management, including infrastructure maintenance, utilities, and energy optimization.
  • Ensure all facility projects meet regulatory, environmental, and safety standards.
  • Lead annual capital planning process and long-term asset renewal strategy.
  • Drive energy efficiency and sustainability improvements in partnership with EHS & Sustainability leadership.
  • Technical Capability & Continuous Improvement Build an enterprise-level technical capability roadmap for engineers, technicians, and maintenance professionals.
  • Lead advanced problem-solving using Six Sigma, root cause analysis, and reliability-centered maintenance techniques.
  • Integrate engineering and maintenance metrics into site performance dashboards and executive reviews.
  • Partner with Lean and Quality to ensure process discipline and adherence to standard work.
  • Leadership Expectations Operates as a strategic transformation leader driving technology and reliability improvements across all sites.
  • Fosters a culture of technical excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement among engineering and maintenance teams.
  • Balances strategic capital planning with hands-on operational problem solving.

  • Serves as the corporate champion for automation, TPM, and digital manufacturing innovation.
