About The Position

The Director of Library Relations for North America at Springer Nature will lead efforts to engage with key stakeholders in the academic librarian community, including library leaders and consortia. This role aims to understand their needs, influence their decisions, and promote Springer Nature as a collaborative partner. The position involves developing strategies to enhance library relations, facilitating events, and securing transformative agreements to support the transition to Open Access and Public Access in research publishing.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree and/or equivalent experience in library/information science is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience working at a senior level in an academic library or relevant consortia.
  • Strong, positive profile and reputation in the US library community.
  • Extensive knowledge of the research landscape and strategic imperatives in scholarly publishing.
  • Proven experience in managing and influencing people.
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategy.
  • Excellent relationship-building skills and knowledge of internal functions and priorities.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Good leadership and team-building qualities.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Open Access and transformative agreements in the academic sector.
  • Familiarity with the evolving role of AI in research and library services.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and iterate an overarching strategy and specific initiatives to maximize the mutual value of SN's library relations.
  • Collaborate with Sales and customer engagement teams to develop engagement mechanisms with high-level librarian leaders and institutional influencers.
  • Design, organize, and run multi-librarian events in the USA and Canada to promote Open Access and Public Access.
  • Establish needs and constraints of target consortia and librarians, aligning them with SN's goals and capabilities.
  • Work with sales and account development to secure new transformative agreements in targeted accounts.
  • Build relationships with institutional leaders to promote the benefits of Open Access and secure funding for these initiatives.
  • Manage and track relations with a subset of target organizations in the USA and Canada.
  • Act as a champion of libraries within Springer Nature, disseminating key findings from librarian interactions to stakeholders.
  • Complete strategic analyses of policy trends and make recommendations for academic affairs priorities.
