About The Position

The Center for Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies at Appalachian State University invites applications for the Leon Levine Distinguished Professor of Judaic, Holocaust, and Peace Studies, The Center seeks to strengthen tolerance, understanding, and remembrance by increasing the knowledge of Jewish culture and history, teaching the history and meaning of the Holocaust and other genocides, and using these experiences to explore peaceful avenues for humanity and the prevention of further genocides. This is an 11-month contract, tenured faculty position with administrative responsibilities. The successful candidate will direct the Center, teach one course per semester, and receive reassigned time for research. The director will sustain constructive relationships with Center stakeholders and lead fundraising for the Center in cooperation with University Advancement. The director will also organize and run the Summer Holocaust Symposium.

Requirements

  • The successful candidate will be hired with tenure at the rank of Associate or Full Professor and will be appointed to an appropriate academic department within the College of Arts & Sciences.
  • A Ph.D. or equivalent is required.
