About The Position

The American Dental Education Association (ADEA) is seeking to add an experienced Director, Leadership Programs to its team. Summary of Position The Director, Leadership Programs oversees the development, implementation, and maintenance of leadership programs in the Office of Learning (OL). This position is also responsible for the measurement of the impact of the association’s leadership programs strategy. The Director, Leadership Programs, will collaborate with ADEA staff and ADEA members to deliver effective programs that support diverse professions. Additionally, they will assist with leadership programs that are overseen in other ADEA departments to ensure that the website, the “ADEA Leadership Hub”, displays all the ADEA leadership programs available to ADEA members. The incumbent will support the Leadership Institute Alumni Association Board and other alumni groups developing from these programs. This role will also serve as the primary staff liaison to the ADEA Continuing Education Advisory Committee (ADEA CEAC), and the Business Financial Administration and Clinic Administration (BFACA) member group, including facilitating and executing meetings and activities of these two groups. The position will also serve as the primary staff liaison to the Commission on Continuing Education Provider Recognition (CCEPR – CERP) to maintain compliance and produce reports related to the requirements of CCEPR-CERP.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional education and experience is required. Strategic thinker, with 8 years of experience in professional education design/delivery. Six years of experience plus a graduate degree may be substituted.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising, coaching, and developing staff, including providing performance feedback and supporting professional growth.
  • An interest in, and ability to learn, innovative technologies as needed.
  • Experience with volunteer member committees, along with ability to act as ambassador for ADEA with its members and member leadership.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and the ability to prioritize strategically as necessary. Capable of managing multiple tasks simultaneously and working across divisions within ADEA.
  • An established record of effectively planning and managing education programs/events.
  • Excellent written, presentation and verbal communication skills.
  • Expertise with Microsoft Office Suite (including Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), application software such as OpenWater, PDF technology, and videoconference/meeting software such as Zoom/Teams.
  • Strong project and program management capabilities and experience.
  • Ability to project future needs, and plan and manage a budget for each functional area.
  • Ability to work successfully in a diverse team environment and collaborate effectively with others.
  • Ability to travel to external member meetings to support ADEA, as needed, including some weekends.
  • Ability to work a hybrid work schedule. The current schedule is 4 days (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday) in the DC office and ability to work 1 day remotely (Friday). Must have the flexibility to work at ADEA’s DC office as needed to facilitate member programming on site as requested.

Responsibilities

  • Educational Programs Collaborate with content experts in supporting and/or developing the educational programs for OL leadership meetings. This includes the ADEA Leadership Institute (Phases I, II, III, IV), Leadership Institute Alumni Association, Phase V, ADEA Signature Series, and Emerging Leaders Program, and provide support to the ADEA Council of Deans Fellowship, as requested. Develop and maintain the “Leadership Hub” and scholarships/awards pages on the ADEA website. Identify current trends in professional development programming and professional development resources that will assist schools and programs to achieve institutional effectiveness and develop leadership talent. Utilize a needs assessment to set future directions and guide the improvement and expansion of ADEA educational experiences as needed. Works closely with the VP eLearn, Professional Development Manager, the Manager, Learning Analytics, and other OL and ADEA staff in the development of a Continuing Education (CE) transcript service at ADEA. Identify current trends in professional development programming and professional development resources that will assist schools and programs to achieve institutional effectiveness and develop leadership talent. Work with OL and ADEA leadership to manage the relationship with external vendors for leadership program development, including the Academy of Academic Leadership (AAL). Coordinate, produce and distribute leadership program certificates of completion. Manage the budgets for ADEA’s leadership programs and ensure that the programs meet attendance, revenue, and expense goals.
  • Staff Liaison to Member Committees Serve as the primary staff liaison to the ADEA Continuing Education Advisory Committee (CEAC) and oversee the production of reports to inform the Committee’s work. This will include: 1. utilizing a needs assessment to review current and set future directions and guide the continuing improvement and expansion of ADEA educational experiences; 2. developing committee agendas, and preparing materials; 3. coordinating meetings with committee members; 4. developing minutes, reports and deliverables for the committee and ADEA Board. Serve as the primary staff liaison to the Business and Financial Administration and Clinical Administration (BFACA) member group, including facilitating and executing all meetings, the annual meeting of the group, and all other activities. Serve as primary staff liaison to the Commission on Continuing Education Provider Recognition (CCEPR – CERP) to maintain compliance and produce reports related to the requirements of CCEPR-CERP. This will include: 1. monitoring CERP regulations; 2. developing operating procedures and systems related to the management of all CCEPR-CERP eligible continuing education offerings at ADEA; 3. leading the evaluation process, analysis, and reporting for all ADEA professional development offerings regarding Continuing Education Recognition Program (CERP); 4. drafting and submitting compliance reports to CERP as needed and to maintain compliance; 5. working with OL Manager, Learning Analytics to prepare data reports and supportive analytics to demonstrate compliance with CERP.
  • Awards, Scholarships and Fellowships Supervise the Professional Development Manager to support operational functions of ADEA awards, scholarships and fellowships including promotion, application, selection, notification and award distribution at ADEA Annual Session using new and innovative technology in order to streamline work efficiency. Perform other duties as assigned.
