Ciena is seeking a passionate and experienced Director of Manager & Leadership Development to join our People Success team within the People & Culture organization. Reporting to VP People Success, this individual will play a crucial role in defining and executing a progressive manager and leadership development strategy that cultivates a strong leadership pipeline and builds world class manager capabilities. The successful candidate should be located near a Ciena office - either in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada OR Hanover, Maryland, USA, or London, England.

  • Develop a progressive strategy for leadership and management development.
  • Research leading edge approaches that organizations can take to develop capabilities and cultivate strong leadership pipeline.
  • Gather internal stakeholder feedback on the current gaps in leadership and management development.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of existing manager and leadership development programs.
  • Recommend and implement a multi-year manager and leadership development strategy aligned with Ciena's leadership framework and business objectives.
  • Provide recommendations for gaining leader and manager mindshare to invest in their personal skills development.
  • Partner with Senior Director Learning & Development to integrate and later evolve the Ciena durable skills framework.
  • Design and deliver innovative manager and leadership programs leveraging diverse learning modalities.
  • Work collaboratively with the Ciena L&D team to design and deliver enterprise programs.
  • Propose strategies for non curriculum learning & development.
  • Agree measures of success for all learning curriculum.
  • Manage program implementation including vendor selection, budget, logistics, and communication.
  • Facilitate impactful learning experiences for all leadership levels.
  • Establish learning metrics to measure program effectiveness and ROI.
  • Track program data, identify improvement areas, and communicate impact to stakeholders.
  • Foster strong relationships within People & Culture and key business leaders.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in leadership development or talent management.
  • Strong understanding of adult learning principles, instructional design, and diverse learning methodologies.
  • Proven ability to leverage technology and innovative approaches for enhanced learning.
  • Excellent program/project management and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and facilitation skills.
