About The Position

The University of Kansas School of Law is seeking a tenure-track associate librarian to serve as the director of the Wheat Law Library. This role encompasses comprehensive management of library operations, including budget oversight, personnel supervision, collection development, and strategic planning for the library's future growth. The director will also engage in teaching and research, contributing to the academic community while ensuring the library meets the needs of law faculty, staff, and students.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA accredited law school and an MLS or MLIS or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution.
  • Minimum of four years of professional experience at the rank of assistant librarian.
  • Documented evidence of professional library expertise and a record of research and service.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Manage all aspects of library operations including budget, financial, and purchasing activities.
  • Supervise personnel and oversee daily activities and operations of the library.
  • Develop and implement collection development plans to support teaching and research needs.
  • Engage in strategic planning for the library's future growth and development.
  • Teach Advanced Legal Research and participate in instructional programming for law students.
  • Provide liaison support to designated law school faculty, conducting research and collection development.
  • Represent the KU law library within the law school and professional organizations.
