About The Position

The director of Laboratory is overall responsible for the management of the Laboratory department. Ensures that chemical, microscopic, and bacteriologic tests are performed accurately and efficiently, and that the results are reported in a timely manner. Keeps informed of developments in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. Supervises Laboratory personnel. Responsible for the daily operation and supervision of the personnel working in the Clinical Laboratory and Transfusion service Departments. Assists in providing quality services in a cost-efficient manner by recommending and allocating appropriate staffing, Developing and implementing new programs, policies, procedures, protocols, and CAP/Joint commission/CMS compliance, as necessary. Serves to coordinate and direct activities related with management of fiscal, operational, and technical matters. Suggests changes and modifications to services that will improve margins. Provides professional, competent, safe, appropriate patient care from patients age newborn and older; management of all documentation related to testing and resulting, management of communication between the Laboratory and ancillary and off campus sites, both verbal and hardcopy documents. Maintains a professional, cooperative interaction with all hospital departments, medical staff, and the public in keeping with the mission and philosophy of Manatee Memorial Hospital Health System. Demonstrates Service Excellence at all times. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a life science or related field from an accredited College or University required.
  • Master's degree in related field from an accredited College or University preferred.
  • Five (5) to Seven (7) years of clinical experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) required.
  • Minimum three (3) years leadership experience as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or in related field required.
  • Acute care experience preferred.
  • Current Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) License in the State of California.
