About The Position

The Department of Surgery has an exciting opportunity for a full time Director, Laboratory Services position. The incumbent directs and manages the overall operation, leadership, direction, and administration of the clinical laboratory, in accordance with relevant state and federal regulations. The incumbent also oversees the overall operation and administration of the assigned laboratory, including the employment of personnel that is competent in performing test procedures, and recording and reporting test results in a prompt, accurate, and proficient manner.

• Bachelor's degree in relevant field
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience

Nice To Haves

• Have earned a doctoral, master's, or bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution.
• Florida Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel licensing, Supervisor
• Credentialing by the American College of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) as a Certified Histocompatibility Technologist (CHT) or Certified Histocompatibility Specialist (CHS) certification is recommended.
• Five to seven years of management experience.
• Have at least three years of laboratory training or experience in human immunogenetics, human histocompatibility and/or human transplantation immunology testing under the supervision of a director and/or technical supervisor of an ASHI-accredited or an equivalent ARB-approved laboratory.
• Experience in a leadership position preferred.

Responsibilities

• Monitors testing systems developed and used for each of the tests performed in the laboratory for all aspects of performance, including pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic phases of testing.
• Ensures that the physical plant and environment conditions of the laboratory are appropriate for the testing performed and provides a safe environment in which employees are protected from physical, chemical, and biological hazards.
• Ensures that the test methodologies selected have the capability of providing the quality of results required for patient care.
• Ensures the establishment and maintenance of acceptable levels of analytical performance for each test system.
• Ensures that reports of test results include pertinent information required for interpretation.
• Ensures that consultation is available to the laboratory's clients on matters relating to the quality of the test results reported and their interpretation concerning specific patient conditions.
• Ensures that an approved procedure manual is available to all relevant personnel.
• Establishes standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality, safety, and complete on-time delivery.
• Fosters a unified culture and promotes a process for collaboration, cooperation, and teamwork.
• Monitors utilization patterns of laboratory services and advises leadership and other appropriate staff of developing trends in clinical service needs.
• Ensures operational adherence to currently accepted technical service standards for laboratory medicine.
• Participates in the development and implementation of an operations budget to ensure compliance with organizational expenditure requirements.
• Leads and directs the development, communication, and implementation of effective growth strategies and processes.
• Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
• Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.
