Under the oversight of the Senior Director for Laboratory Services and the VP for Pathology and Laboratory Services and in conjunction with the Medical Director and Chief of Pathology, the Director for Laboratory Operations has the overall responsibility for developing and executing plans to achieve efficient throughput of quality laboratory results. As the leader for the Centralized Laboratory, the Director must take advantage of technology, operational analysis and quality consistent with good laboratory practice to ensure collected specimens are processed efficiently and in accordance with regulatory guidelines and tested in accordance with applicable procedure and regulatory guidelines. The Clinical Laboratory Director understands complex and integrated laboratory systems to include directly working with satellite (HUB) laboratories, Kelsey-Seybold phlebotomy services, and courier services as the workflow pertains to the centralized laboratory. The Laboratory Director must ensure quality controls and processes are rigorously followed, engage with applicable vendors and other members of the Laboratory leadership team to include medical leadership with quality concerns. The Laboratory Director ensures staff are trained for the instruments they are assigned and works collaboratively with the Technical Director, leadership for Quality, leadership of Compliance and Medical leadership to ensure the integrity of the laboratory results. The Laboratory Director will work directly with subordinate managers, supervisors and leads on day, evening or weekend shift as may be required. Coordinates with Sr. Director and VP for Pathology and Laboratory Services for the management and oversight of the laboratory’s operating budget and contributes to the capital budget planning process, ensuring resources align with superior testing services.
