About The Position

The Labor Relations Director at GAF is responsible for developing and executing strategies to ensure positive labor relations across the organization. This role involves collaboration with leadership, Human Resources, and Legal to manage all aspects of labor relations, particularly concerning collective bargaining unit employees. The director will oversee compliance with collective bargaining agreements and federal and state employment regulations while providing consultation and conflict resolution. Additionally, the position includes developing a comprehensive union avoidance strategy for non-union plants.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) or equivalent experience in Human Resources, business or related field.
  • 5+ years of demonstrated labor relations experience including grievance, contract administration, and negotiations.
  • 7 years of Human Resources experience.
  • Direct experience with writing and interpreting collective bargaining agreements.
  • Experience handling grievance procedures and preparing for arbitration sessions.
  • First chair negotiating experience for union contract negotiations.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Arts/Sciences (MA/MS) in HR or related field.
  • Formal conflict mediation experience or training.
  • Labor Relations and/or HR experience in a large manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and executes a labor relations strategy in collaboration with GAF leadership, Human Resources, and Legal.
  • Facilitates communication between company leadership, union leadership, and bargaining unit employees regarding collective bargaining agreements.
  • Represents GAF as chief spokesperson in collective bargaining negotiations and manages grievance administration and arbitration preparation.
  • Promotes collaborative labor relations consistent with business objectives and maintains relationships with local union leadership.
  • Reviews and analyzes collective bargaining agreements and develops recommended bargaining positions.
  • Coaches and counsels management on the interpretation and administration of collective bargaining agreements.
  • Conducts investigations and resolves employee complaints and grievances.
  • Assists with arbitration proceedings preparation and conducts training for managers and HR professionals.
  • Maintains knowledge of labor and employment laws and ensures compliance across the organization.
  • Develops and manages a union avoidance strategy for non-union plants.
