Position Overview: Reporting to the Executive Vice President of Commercial, the Director, Joint Ventures & Affiliate Management is a senior leadership role responsible for the governance, performance oversight, and relationship management of Motiva’s Joint Ventures (JV) and strategic affiliates, with a primary focus on Aramco Trading Americas (ATA). This role serves as Motiva’s enterprise liaison to JV and affiliate partners, ensuring alignment on commercial performance, financial outcomes, governance standards, and strategic objectives. The Director is accountable for developing structured performance management frameworks, leading executive-level escalation and resolution processes, and enabling cross-company execution on joint initiatives such as logistics integration, commercial alignment, and global optimization programs. The role partners closely with Commercial, Finance, Legal, Supply, Logistics, and Aramco affiliates and stakeholders to ensure disciplined governance, transparent performance tracking, and effective collaboration across organizational boundaries.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Marketing, or related field.
  • 10+ years of experience, including 5+ years in business development, corporate strategy, commercial, or JV/affiliate management roles.
  • Strong understanding of oil & gas commercial, trading, or downstream operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex external partnerships, joint ventures, or affiliate relationships.
  • Strong financial, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Experience navigating legal and commercial complexities of partnership agreements.
  • Proven ability to influence without authority across organizations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with executive presence.
  • Ability to travel 20–30%.
  • Ability to work in Motiva’s Downtown Houston office Monday–Thursday.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Prior experience managing multiple joint ventures or affiliate partnerships simultaneously.
  • Experience working with Aramco or Aramco affiliates strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading cross-company commercial or logistics integration initiatives.
  • Financial modeling and budgeting experience.

Responsibilities

  • Lead governance oversight for Motiva joint ventures and affiliate relationships, with primary accountability for Aramco Trading Americas.
  • Develop and maintain standardized JV and Affiliate scorecards covering commercial, financial, operational, and strategic performance.
  • Lead recurring performance review meetings with JV and affiliate leadership to assess results, risks, opportunities, and corrective actions.
  • Ensure JV and affiliate activities align with Motiva’s strategic priorities and commercial objectives.
  • Serve as the primary escalation point for commercial, financial, and contractual matters, coordinating resolution with Legal, Finance, Commercial, and Executive Leadership.
  • Prepare executive-level materials and recommendations for governance forums, ELT, and Board representation as required.
  • Act as Motiva’s senior liaison to Aramco Trading Americas and other strategic affiliates, building trusted relationships that enable strong collaboration and execution.
  • Align counterpart organizations on commercial strategies, operating models, and performance expectations.
  • Lead coordination of projects and initiatives requiring JV or affiliate collaboration, including joint logistics, commercial alignment, data and system integration, and certain Global Optimizer programs.
  • Ensure project milestones, dependencies, and ownership are clearly defined and actively managed across organizations.
  • Support development of future JV and affiliate strategies, including evaluation of new partnership opportunities.
  • Partner with Business Development, Strategy, and Commercial teams on due diligence, operating model design, and governance frameworks.
  • Ensure consistent governance standards and performance expectations across all JV and affiliate relationships.
