About The Position

The Director of Enterprise Architecture will lead, own, and elevate Quantinuum’s IT architecture standards and architectural governance, driving the overall IT architecture, integration standards, technology roadmaps, and decision frameworks across the enterprise. This role is accountable for materially improving the maturity of the IT organization—including architectural discipline, technology lifecycle management, and operating processes—so IT can scale reliably and efficiently as Quantinuum grows. You will help evolve IT from a reactive, project-centric model to a scalable, service- and platform-oriented approach that improves reliability, reduces complexity, and accelerates delivery. This leader will be highly visible and influential, partnering with senior cross-functional leaders to guide enterprise-wide architectural decisions across business functions and IT. You will ensure the company selects, builds, implements, and supports secure, high-quality systems that are tightly integrated and aligned to current and future business needs. A critical focus of this role is establishing architectural direction for AI/ML enablement, advanced data platforms, and hybrid compute (including GPU-accelerated workloads)—balancing cost, performance, scalability, and security—while aligning closely with R&D and business priorities

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree minimum
  • 10+ years of experience leading enterprise-level IT architecture and software development.
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as a U.S. citizen, permanent resident or green card holder, or workers granted asylum or refugee status.
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Mathematics, or equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with and influence executives and cross-functional stakeholders, skilled at presenting business value vs. technical detail.
  • Broad domain expertise across enterprise applications and platforms, systems integration, infrastructure, and security.
  • Experience with SaaS/COTS and enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Microsoft, ServiceNow, Data & Analytics, SAP, and adjacent systems.
  • Experience with private/public cloud infrastructure, including AWS and Azure, plus modern collaboration/UCaaS patterns.
  • Strong knowledge and application of architecture frameworks (e.g., TOGAF, Zachman) and architectural patterns/prescriptive architectures.
  • Ability to compare and defend alternative architectures and provide evidence-based recommendations aligned to corporate strategy.
  • Proven ability to drive maturity uplift: standardization, governance, lifecycle management, and operating process improvements at scale.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting AI/ML-enabled solutions and data-intensive platforms, and the ability to set architectural direction for advanced computers (including GPU/hybrid patterns).
  • Strong financial acumen: able to review estimates and budgets and translate architecture into investment tradeoffs.
  • Self-starter with high integrity, collaborative mindset, and comfort operating in a fast-paced environment.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., TOGAF, cloud architecture, security) are highly desired.
  • Experience establishing and evolving architecture governance that enables fast delivery while reducing risk and technical debt.
  • Experience building and operationalizing reference architectures and standard patterns across applications, data, and infrastructure.
  • Strong systems thinking ability to link disparate components into a clear plan of action and guide teams through change.
  • Ability to document procedures and design workflows that improve supportability and employee experience.

Responsibilities

  • Establish and own IT architecture strategy and multi-year roadmaps aligned to Quantinuum’s technology and business strategies.
  • Act as a trusted advisor and strategic partner to business leaders, translating business objectives into actionable architecture, roadmaps, and investment recommendations.
  • Facilitate executive-level tradeoff discussions (cost, risk, speed, scalability) and drive decisions that align technology investments to measurable business outcomes.
  • Build business cases and drive them forward for approval, communicating value in business terms.
  • Assess current-state architecture and operating patterns; define and execute a pragmatic plan to raise IT maturity, improve consistency, and reduce preventable operational load.
  • Drive rationalization of the IT technology footprint (platforms, tools, integrations), reducing complexity and technical debt while improving stability and user experience.
  • Partner with IT leaders to improve core operating processes such as intake/prioritization, architectural standards, change governance, service management alignment, and lifecycle management.
  • Establish and maintain reference architectures and reference processes that enable repeatable delivery and scalable operations.
  • Define and maintain enterprise architectural direction for AI/ML, data platforms, and advanced compute, including GPU-accelerated workloads and hybrid compute models.
  • Partner with R&D, infrastructure, and application teams to align enterprise IT architecture with data-intensive and compute-intensive needs, ensuring secure and performance delivery.
  • Develop reference architectures for AI enablement (e.g., data pipelines, model lifecycle considerations, governance, security controls, and platform integration patterns).
  • Evaluate cloud vs. on-prem vs. hybrid architectures for AI and compute, balancing performance, cost, scalability, resilience, and compliance needs.
  • Develop, communicate, and operate enterprise architecture governance that is lightweight, transparent, and enables delivery—while measurably improving decision quality, reducing rework, and managing architectural risk.
  • Lead architecture reviews and design decisions; ensure new and existing solutions comply with standards, policies, and target-state direction; document exceptions.
  • Identify architectural risks and propose alternatives and solutions; ensure long-term impacts on adjacent systems are understood.
  • Review IT procurement plans for compliance with IT standards and architectural direction.
  • Provide architectural consulting to programs, projects, and initiatives, including leading and guiding software/platform selection.
  • Provide architectural leadership to a small virtual team of Solution/Domain/Technology Architects and Engineers; enable consistent delivery through coaching and governance.
  • Coach delivery teams in lean/agile thinking to build high-quality solutions at a sustainable pace, balancing tactical needs with strategic architecture.
  • Deploy and maintain an Enterprise Architecture repository and toolset and communicate architectural decisions and progress to C-level audiences.
