About The Position

Gundersen Moundview Hospital and Clinics (GMHC) is seeking a dynamic and mission-driven Director of Inpatient Operations to join our senior leadership team. This leader will provide strategic direction, operational oversight, and visionary leadership for a broad range of inpatient and clinical services, ensuring alignment with the Mission and Values of GMHC. The Director of Inpatient Operations is accountable for the effective operation of nursing and clinical services, including inpatient pharmacy, medical-surgical, emergency department, laboratory, respiratory therapy, cardiac therapy, and sleep services. This position is instrumental in promoting a culture of safety, operational excellence, fiscal stewardship, and workforce engagement across the organization. As healthcare continues to transform through emerging technologies, value-based models, and increasing transparency, GMHC remains committed to innovation and superior patient outcomes. The Director will monitor market trends and guide their teams in delivering seamless, high-quality, and affordable care aligned with GMHC’s strategic goals.

Requirements

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • 3–4 years of increasingly responsible healthcare management experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, research, and develop educational/informational materials.
  • Effective program implementation experience.
  • Strong problem-solving, analytical, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to set priorities aligned with organizational strategy.
  • Competence in meeting deadlines and regulatory standards.
  • Commitment to exceptional customer service.
  • Ability to influence and guide individuals and teams toward common goals.
  • Professional attitude regarding motivation, cooperation, adaptability, confidentiality, ethics, and self‑development.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe, and similar applications.
  • Experience with HRIS systems such as Lawson, Workday, or Kronos.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) licensed in the state of Wisconsin
  • Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider CPR
  • Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification

Nice To Haves

  • At least 1 year of experience in healthcare management at a director level or above.
  • Leadership certification or leadership training

Responsibilities

  • Organizational Strategy & Implementation Assess market trends and identify their impact on inpatient and clinical operations. Contribute to strategic and operational planning within assigned areas. Translate GMHC strategy into actionable goals and ensure staff alignment and engagement.
  • Fiscal Management Lead budget development and financial management for all areas of responsibility. Promote cost-effective care delivery without compromising quality or safety. Make data-driven decisions to optimize resource utilization.
  • Human Resource Leadership Recruit, coach, and retain high-performing teams. Support physician recruitment in collaboration with hospital leadership. Lead performance evaluations, compensation recommendations, and professional development initiatives.
  • Excellence in Service & Clinical Quality Champion superior patient experience, clinical quality, and safety outcomes. Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies. Lead process improvements, evidence-based practice adoption, and operational efficiencies.
  • Organizational Leadership Serve as a key member of the senior management team. Model GMHC’s Mission, Values, and expectations for conflict management and professionalism. Lead with transparency, collaboration, and a commitment to organizational excellence.
  • Vision, Strategy & Resource Management Develop and execute long-term vision, objectives, and strategies for inpatient operations. Advocate for required resources, including technology, staffing, and capital investments.
  • Operational Improvement & Change Leadership Drive change initiatives that improve efficiency, quality, and patient satisfaction. Resolve clinical and operational issues within regulatory and financial guidelines. Recommend updates to policies, processes, and system improvements.
