About The Position

The Director of Innovation Ecosystem Development will support the Executive Director of the Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (NYSTAR) within Empire State Development (ESD). The role focuses on identifying and developing programs and strategies to enhance New York's innovation ecosystem, collaborating with various stakeholders to create and leverage innovation platforms that align with state priorities. The position requires in-office presence, with potential for hybrid work based on job duties.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or associate degree with 7 years of direct relevant experience may substitute.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience, preferably in leadership capacities.
  • Experience building strategies and planning execution in the innovation space.
  • Multidisciplinary background preferred.
  • Excellent verbal and writing skills.
  • Strong understanding of technology and innovation sectors.
  • Experience in not-for-profit supporting technology acceleration, academia, and governmental grant writing.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in research commercialization.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal policy and administration.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Executive Director and ESD partners in structuring and implementing initiatives aligned with strategic industries and technologies.
  • Engage and develop long-term working relationships with local, state, and federal resource partners.
  • Assist the Executive Director with the creation and implementation of proactive programs that support innovation and technology companies.
  • Ensure effective coordination and integration of activities between ESD staff, Executive Chamber, agency specialists, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage direct reports overseeing entrepreneurship and innovation programs.
  • Contribute to the development of internal and external communications, collateral, and events promoting the NYSTAR network.
  • Oversee and undertake special projects or initiatives as needed.
