About The Position

The Director, Information Systems (IS) provides strategic and operational leadership for enterprise data integration, information systems operations and informatics functions. This position oversees Medical Informatics, AS400/RPGLE development, and IS Operations Support teams. This individual is responsible for ensuring the accuracy, integrity, security, and performance of data systems that support the organization's insurance operations and must have a strong leadership presence capable of driving performance, accountability, and innovation across a multi-disciplinary team. This role emphasizes operational excellence, process integrity, and compliance with HIPAA and other industry standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Health Informatics, or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive experience in EDI management, with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity
  • Proven background in healthcare or insurance IT operations, data management, and process control
  • Proven experience in EDI management and QA oversight
  • Strong understanding of HIPAA, data governance, and EDI standards (HL7, X12, FHIR, etc.)
  • Demonstrated expertise in process management, QA frameworks, and leadership development
  • Strategic leadership and organizational vision
  • High emotional intelligence and ability to build trust across technical and operational teams
  • Excellent communication and executive presentation skills
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on accountability, quality, and compliance

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree in Health Informatics, Information Systems, or Business Administration
  • Experience in insurance or healthcare enterprise data environments
  • PMP, ITIL, CHDA, or CHCIO
  • Proficient with AS400/RPGLE and EDI infrastructure

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a diverse team of technical and informatics professionals.
  • Establish the strategic vision for enterprise data management and system integration.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to align technology operations with business goals.
  • Promote a culture of transparency, performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Direct day-to-day EDI, IS Operations, and informatics support functions.
  • Implement process management frameworks, QA standards, and measurable performance metrics.
  • Ensure systems reliability, data accuracy, and compliance with corporate and regulatory policies.
  • Drive continuous process improvement and operational risk reduction.
  • Ensure adherence to HIPAA, HITECH, and data privacy regulations.
  • Oversee audit readiness, data integrity reviews, and QA validation processes.
  • Partner with compliance and information security on governance and risk mitigation.
  • Provide direction for AS400/RPGLE systems, EDI transactions, and integration platforms.
  • Manage vendor relationships and technology service contracts.
  • Collaborate with Medical Informatics leadership to meet enterprise data needs.
