About The Position

The Director of Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) is responsible for the development, planning and coordination of the IPC program for the Presbyterian Delivery System. The IPC director sets the strategic and operational plan for oversight, monitoring, and sustainability of program functions for surveillance, prevention and control of healthcare associated infections and other infectious diseases, safety of patients, visitors, and the workforce, in compliance with regulatory requirements. The Director of Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) is responsible for the development, planning, and coordination of the IPC program for the Presbyterian Delivery System. The IPC director sets the strategic and operational plan for oversight, monitoring, and sustainability of program functions for surveillance, prevention, and control of healthcare associated infections and other infectious diseases, safety of patients, visitors, the workforce, in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree, masters degree preferred in healthcare or healthcare related field e.g., Nursing, Epidemiology, Public Health, etc.
  • Three years experience in Infection Prevention & Control
  • Minimum three years of progressive leadership experience IPC, Nursing, or related field
  • Certified in Infection Control (CIC) from the Certification Board of Infection Control (CBIC) upon hire or within 12 months from the date of hire OR Advanced Leadership Certification in Infection Prevention (AL-CIP) from the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology
  • Registered Nurse must have a current unrestricted license to practice within the State of New Mexico

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Medical Director of Infection Prevention & Control to develop and implement the IPC Plan aligned with the PHS Quality Plan, including annual risk assessments and mitigation strategies.
  • Oversee the creation and execution of IPC policies and procedures that comply with regulatory standards and evidence-based practices across all healthcare settings.
  • Ensure staff receive competency-based training in infection prevention and control, collaborating with education, clinical, and operational leaders.
  • Manage IPC program operations including staff development, budgeting, workplace safety, and alignment with organizational goals and compliance requirements.
  • Lead data collection, surveillance, and reporting efforts for infections and reportable diseases to internal stakeholders and external agencies within required timelines.
  • Facilitate IPC-related committees, emergency preparedness activities, and maintain current knowledge of IPC trends, regulations, and professional standards.
