Lubbock Heart & Surgical Hospital specializes in the care of cardiac, orthopedic, nephrology, urology, and general medical patients.  We are also a highly active inpatient center mainly centered on surgical procedures that include cardiothoracic, orthopedic, urology, and general surgery.  We have a 24-hour Emergency Department with 5 fully equipped ED rooms, 4 fully operating OR rooms, 4 cardiac catherization labs with 1 electrophysiology room, 11-day surgery rooms, 58 acute care beds spread over three units, and 16 cardiac critical care rooms.  We pride ourselves on giving the best overall care possible to our patients and on our family style atmosphere that includes everyone: patients and their families, physicians, and our employees.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas.
  • BCLS and ACLS required.
  • Bachelors Degree in Health Science and/or certified in Infection Control.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of clinical experience.
  • Supervisory experience required.

  • Infection Control/Employee Health experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements a surveillance plan on an annual basis as approved by the Infection Control Committee.
  • Conducts on-going surveillance and documentation of infections in patients and personnel utilizing priority directed, targeted surveillance method.
  • Collects and analytically interprets infection data based on NHSN data and rates.
  • Investigates clusters of infections about expected levels.
  • Develops and implements risk-reduction plans for nosocomial infections.
  • Inspects environment and observes personnel activities for the purpose of detecting possible infection hazards and to evaluate compliance with hospital infection control policies.
  • Conducts special studies as directed by the Infection Control Committee.
  • Refers unresolved questions or problems to the chairman of the Infection Control Committee who will provide consultative advice and/or call a committee meeting if necessary.
  • Conducts surgical site infection surveillance using the database and reporting quarterly to committee and surgeons.
  • Compiles and presents surveillance reports to the Infection Control Committee on a bimonthly basis.
  • Reports all in-house patients with communicable diseases to the county and/or state health department and maintains records. Disseminates information relative to infection control and implements infection control measures recommended by the Infection Control Committee.
  • Updates and maintains Lubbock Heart Hospital Surgical Surveillance databases.
  • Develops and implements all mandatory standards, programs, and regulations relevant to infection control.
  • Prepares plans for mandatory compliance with regulatory agencies (OSHA: Bloodborne pathogen, TB prevention and control) and presents to the Hospital Infection Control Committee. • Assists in the implementation of work practice and engineering controls relevant to OSHA regulations.
