As a scientific Director in the Enterprise Data & Data Science (ED&DS) at Liberty Mutual, you will be part of a dynamic team of data science (DS) and machine learning engineering (MLE) experts. Your role will involve collaborating across the enterprise to tackle some of Liberty's most challenging data science problems. The ED&DS Science team was established to provide centralized support and expertise to DS teams throughout the global organization. Our projects are focused on key areas of interest that span multiple teams, aiming to discover enterprise capabilities. These areas include cutting-edge research and experimentation in generative AI and other forms of AI, development of common tools and platforms, establishing standards for delivering and measuring the quality of DS work, and leading the experimentation and adoption of new tools and techniques. In this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects that have a significant impact across Liberty. The scope of our projects is vast, and potential initiatives may include defining metrics and assessing the quality of content generated by Generative AI across various use cases, designing and fine-tuning language models (NLP/NLU) to derive predictions or summaries from diverse data sources such as customer calls, claim notes, web chats, and medical records, and collaborating with technology partners to adopt and integrate MLOps tools that support broad DS needs. You will also explore the advantages and limitations of privacy-preserving machine learning and synthetic data to enhance experimentation while safeguarding customer data. Your responsibilities will include developing and implementing the scientific strategy for our initiatives, recognizing new strategic opportunities, and utilizing advanced machine learning techniques to implement and scale solutions from Proof-of-Concept (PoC) to Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and beyond. You will communicate strategies and initiatives to business partners and stakeholders using clear visuals for non-technical audiences, manage complex projects, and serve as a technical consultant for project design. Engaging with the data science community and leading cross-functional working groups will also be key aspects of your role, allowing you to collaborate with scientists and engineers of varying expertise levels and influence solutions across the organization.
