About The Position

The Employee Relations Director provides leadership and oversight for employee relations services supporting assigned schools and departments. This position partners with District leaders to address workplace issues, conduct investigations, ensure consistent application of District policies, and promote effective employee management practices. The Director works collaboratively with administrators and Human Resources staff to resolve complex personnel matters, mitigate organizational risk, and support strategies that attract, develop, and retain a high-quality workforce aligned with District goals. The position also supervises Human Resources staff responsible for employee relations support and fosters positive working relationships among District employees, leadership, and the broader community. Training or professional development in human resources, employee relations, workplace investigations, or employment law preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide guidance to administrators and supervisors regarding compliance with applicable federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including but not limited to Title VII, the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
  • Provide direct employee relations support to assigned schools and departments, serving as the primary HR partner for administrators and supervisors on workplace matters.
  • Support preparation of documentation and coordination related to employment claims, grievances, or legal proceedings in partnership with District leadership and legal counsel.
  • Advise administrators and supervisors on employee relations issues including performance management, employee discipline, workplace conflict, and interpretation of District policies and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential documentation related to investigations, employee relations matters, and corrective actions.
  • Conduct or oversee workplace investigations involving employee misconduct, policy violations, and other employee relations concerns, ensuring investigations are thorough, impartial, and well documented.
  • Provide training and guidance to administrators and supervisors on employee relations topics, including policy compliance, workplace conduct expectations, and effective management practices.
  • Provide guidance to administrators regarding progressive discipline, documentation of performance concerns, and corrective action processes to ensure consistency and fairness across the District.
  • Supervise and provide leadership to assigned Human Resources Coordinators, including assigning work, monitoring performance, providing coaching and professional development, and ensuring consistent application of Human Resources practices and procedures.
  • Identify emerging employee relations trends or workplace concerns and collaborate with leadership to develop proactive strategies that support employee engagement, accountability, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the effective operation of the Human Resources Department and the District.
  • Support strategies to attract, hire, develop, and retain high-quality employees by working collaboratively with District leaders and Human Resources partners.
  • Assist in the development, review, and continuous improvement of human resources policies, procedures, and practices to ensure alignment with District goals and operational needs.
