About The Position

Primary Purpose: Responsible for coordinating and leading FMI Nutrition, Health and Well-being programs and initiatives; manages projects to support the Vice President of Health and Well-being and Chief Science Officer. Serve as an issue expert on nutrition, health and well-being topics for FMI members and other FMI departments. Essential Job Functions: Responsible for planning, executing, and supporting FMI's nutrition, health and well-being programs and offerings for retail, wholesale, product supplier, and associate members. Design and develop programs and content that FMI members can use to establish their Health and Well-being programs and activities. Assist the department in developing and distributing nutrition, health and well-being communications such as emails, blog posts, member updates, etc. Direct activities of the FMI Health and Well-being Council, with regular outreach, consistent communication, and efforts to enlist and promote member participation in program and activities as needed. Serve as a nutrition, health and well-being subject-matter-expert and as spokesperson on food, nutrition and health-related topics when needed. Provide support to other FMI departments on technical food, nutrition, health, and well-being issues. Support and influence health and well-being research reports. Collaborate with the FMI Research and Insights Team to design, develop and publish reports on content of interest to members. Develop and enhance relationships with appropriate organizations to advance FMI's priority programs related to nutrition, health, and well-being. Collaborate with and serve as a technical resource and liaison to the FMI Foundation regarding health and nutrition research, educational activities and identification of emerging issues related to nutrition, health, and well-being. Identify and engage key industry partners, non-governmental organizations (NGO), and government leaders to create programs and services that will help FMI members maximize opportunities for growth through enhanced health and well-being programs that integrate food, nutrition, and pharmacy. Collaborate with FMI's Government & Public Affairs department regarding nutrition and health policy issues; Serve as reviewer and subject matter expert on nutrition policy, federal programs related to food and nutrition, collaborative partnerships, etc. Demonstrate leadership in management of strategic plans and budgets. Manage tasks of the department assistant, as necessary. Oversee the development and maintenance of the Health and Well-being section of the FMI website and contribute to other sections referring to nutrition, health and well-being initiatives and content. Develop visual presentations for the department on topics to be presented to the FMI membership and on external platforms. Identify and prioritize Health and Well-being issues significant to consumers and work with members to develop resources that enhance the public's understanding of these issues. Other Job Functions: Represent FMI at meetings and events. Speak on nutrition, health, and well-being issues when appropriate. Respond to requests for information and guidance from members and staff. Recruit staff to support department activities. Other duties and projects as requested or required. Physical Requirements: Normal office environment requiring use of typical business equipment (e.g., computer, telephone, fax, copier, etc.). Ability to travel to conferences, conventions, and other off-site meetings.

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven to ten years of progressively responsible experience in food, health and well-being and nutrition policy and operations.
  • Managerial experience preferred.
  • Ability to manage self and others.
  • College degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field; Registered Dietitian Nutritionist preferred.
  • Advanced degree related to nutrition and/or dietetics preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal food and nutrition policy, including food labeling regulations, nutrition education programs and feeding assistance programs is essential.
  • The ability to demonstrate leadership in management of strategic plans and budgets.
  • Committee leadership experience preferred.
  • Ability to collaborate with a diverse group of individuals with various priorities.
  • Self-directed with the ability to organize, prioritize, and accomplish multiple tasks with attention to detail.
  • The ability to use sound judgment is essential.
