About The Position

Provides strategic leadership and operational oversight for all functions related to health information, including medical records, coding, clinical documentation, data integrity, and privacy. This role ensures the accuracy, accessibility, security, and governance of patient information across the organization The Director partners closely with clinical, financial, and IT leaders to support high quality care, operational efficiency, and organizational compliance. The Privacy Officer is responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s privacy program.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and performs evaluations of Coding/Clinical Documentation Manager, Health Information Supervisor, Transcription Liaison, Patient Record Analyst, Patient Record Analyst- Physician Orders, and Secretary.
  • Coordinates activities of personnel engaged in analyzing, coding, clinical documentation, release of information. outsourced transcription and indexing of patient health information.
  • Oversees staffing, budgeting, and resource allocation for the HIM department.
  • Develops and ensures the Health Information department’s goals and score card is aligned with organizational goals.
  • Serves as a liaison between the Medical Staff, Executive Leadership and the Health Information Department.
  • Ensures the Health Information Department’s full compliance with federal and state regulations, including HIPAA, CMS, Joint Commission, and other governing bodies.
  • Collaborates with revenue cycle, compliance, coding and clinical documentation specialists (CDS) teams to optimize reimbursement and reduce denials.
  • Serves as HIPAA Privacy Officer, serving as a resource for privacy-related information and ensures hospital compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Promotes a culture of privacy awareness and provides privacy education across the organization.
  • Conducts regular privacy audits, including proactive audits, and assessments to identify gaps and recommend corrective actions.
  • Develops, maintains and enforces policies related to privacy, security, release of information, and record retention.
  • Reports privacy issues quarterly at Corporate Compliance and Executive Session meetings.
  • Oversees incident response processes related to privacy breaches, including investigation, documentation, and notification requirements.
  • Performs other required duties as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer
