About The Position

Responsible for the management and direction of all TAMUG Graduate Programs under the Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies with interacting with the Senior Vice President and Chief Academic Officer, and Vice president of Academic Affairs. Supervises the Sr Academic Advisor, Galveston Graduate Student Association (GGSA) Officers, and Student Workers. Develops and oversees strategic planning and is responsible for marketing (publications, websites, and media) for the Graduate Studies Office. Represents the University at state and national conferences on behalf of graduate Studies at TAMUG.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Five years of progressively responsible management experience in higher education.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to use word processing and spreadsheet and database programs.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
  • This position is security sensitive
  • This position requires compliance with state and federal laws/codes and Texas A&M University System/TAMU policies, regulations, rules and procedures
  • All tasks and job responsibilities must be performed safely without injury to self or others in compliance with System and University safety requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Fifteen or more years of experience in responsible management, preferably in graduate education, including some supervisory experience.
  • FAMIS, Compass (Banner), Concur, Microsoft Office.
  • Working knowledge of standard office equipment, microcomputers and mainframe environments.

Responsibilities

  • Administration Galveston Liaison with TAMU s Office of Graduate Studies, Office of International Student Services and academic departments regarding TAMUG graduate programs and students.
  • Serve as the representative for TAMUG for Graduate Council and Graduate Operations Committee at TAMU.
  • Provide support to the Senior Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies and Assoc. Provost, TX A&M University (TAMU) and Senior Vice President and Chief Academic Officer and Vice President for Academic Affairs as appropriate (e.g. represent the department at meetings, provide assistance with report preparation and assist with operation of research and Graduate Studies Office).
  • Monitor and ensure compliance with State, System and University policies for graduate education (e.g. Graduate Assistantship eligibility certification, scholarship eligibility, compliance with employment requirements for Graduate Assistantships, and workload compliance reporting.
  • Oversee all graduate student support services (I.e. space, transportation, financial aid, computer and library needs, teaching assistantships and training).
  • Responsible for all publications, websites, and media representing the TAMUG Graduate Studies Office.
  • Work with the Associate Vice President for Research and Graduate Studies and Assoc. Provost TX A&M University (TAMU) and Senior Vice President and Chief Academic Officer and Vice President for Academic Affairs as appropriate to establish policies and procedures to guarantee that the TAMUG educational experience at the graduate level is of the highest quality.
  • Serve on various university committees as the official representative of the Graduate Studies Office (e.g. Academic Advisory Council, Chair of Graduate Instructional Committee, Strategic Enrollment Management Committee); Represent the University at State and National conferences on behalf of Graduate Studies at TX A&M University at Galveston.
  • Monitors and advises graduate students including but not limited to using the University system for student registration, degree audit, course prerequisites, etc.
  • Advises student in areas of graduation tasks such as degree plan petitions, research proposal submission, preliminary exam completion and submission of final exam, professional concerns, financial aid, student services, degree programs, and career and educational goals.
  • Serves as the graduate ombudsman for the Galveston campus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
