About The Position

The Global Procurement organization at United Airlines is responsible for procuring goods and services and developing/managing relationships with third-party providers with the objective of reducing total cost and risk to the company while improving levels of quality, service, and technology. Supporting Managing Director of Procurement, the Director - Global Procurement will liaise with other procurement areas and support the centralization of all spending through close collaboration with the different user areas, prioritizing the pursuit of sustainable reductions in the total cost of ownership, with simultaneous improvements in quality, competitiveness, and service levels.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Procurement / Supply-Chain Finance or another business-related field.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience with at least 3+ years management experience in progressively challenging sourcing roles.
  • Successful track record in Procurement.
  • Strong understanding of the category industry, processes, and products.
  • Experience in understanding, managing, and communicating large data sets.
  • Strong team player to leverage existing resources & drive excellence.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong organizational-construction and change-management skills.
  • Extensive negotiation skills.
  • Excellent written and executive communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills including leadership experience for geographically separated teams.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship.
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification.
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development and implementation of category strategies and continuously improve the procurement process.
  • Track market dynamics to ensure optimization of procurement performance.
  • Capture total cost of ownership reductions through strategic procurement process.
  • Support category performance and development: Track insights generated by the Center of Excellence, adapting them to the organization's reality.
  • Lead governance activities, meetings with team, user areas and organizational leadership.
  • Develop strong working relationships with business unit leaders to help drive procurement strategies that lower cost and risk to United and the business.
  • Support strategic and transactional purchasing teams.
  • Guide the team with all RFx processes applying sourcing standard methodologies such as total cost of ownership (TCO) analysis framework, spend data analysis using information from a variety of sources, etc.
  • Track and evaluate team's performance and attract, develop, and retain talent in the department.
  • Remain abreast of internal and external factors affecting products and services and develop recommendations for leaders to act on.
  • Lead all aspects of day-to-day operations including effectively operationalizing the negotiated contracts and ensuring any issues are properly addressed.
