About The Position

The American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA), the national not-for-profit association established in 1863 & representing over 111,000 veterinarians working in private & corporate practice, government, industry, academia, & uniformed services, is seeking a Director of Global Outreach for our Policy & Practice area. Structured to work for its members, AVMA acts as a collective voice for its membership & for the profession. Our mission is to lead the profession by advocating for our members & advancing the science & practice of veterinary medicine to improve animal & human health. Reporting to the Associate Executive Vice President/Chief Veterinary Officer, the Director of Global Outreach coordinates approved international activities for the Association & will work closely & collaboratively with AVMA staff & volunteer leaders to assess, propose, develop, & implement policies, programs, & partnerships designed to enhance & strengthen the AVMA’s global engagement in support of the Association’s vision, mission, & strategic plan. In addition to international responsibilities, the Director, Global Outreach also provides support to the Associate Executive Vice President/Chief Veterinary Officer on assigned initiatives that advance organizational priorities & may be outside a strictly international scope, including issues such as One Health that cross Divisions within Policy & Practice. This position also provides support for councils, committees, task forces, & other entities as assigned, including, but not limited to, the Committee on International Veterinary Affairs. Approximately 10% travel, some international. This position may work remotely.

Requirements

  • Must be highly collaborative & passionate about AVMA’s mission & increasing member satisfaction & engagement.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related & progressively responsible professional experience; association experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, & experience with; international issues affecting the veterinary profession.
  • Exceptional written, verbal, & interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to synthesize & summarize complex information & present it clearly, logically, & persuasively.
  • Must be able to interact & effectively communicate with AVMA leaders, members, & staff, as well as diverse external stakeholders across scientific & nonscientific communities.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, & meetings concurrently.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, & web-based research tools.
  • Self-motivated, collaborative, & adaptable professional with sound judgment.
  • Valid driver’s license & passport required.
  • Ability to travel domestically & internationally on behalf of the Association as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • DVM/VMD strongly preferred.
  • Association experience preferred.
