SUMMARY The Director, Global Facilities Engineering is a senior executive leader responsible for the strategic oversight, governance, and operation of the global facilities engineering and real estate portfolio supporting a global life sciences manufacturing network. This role provides enterprise leadership across a diverse portfolio of manufacturing, laboratory, warehouse, and office facilities, ensuring infrastructure, utilities, and capital programs reliably enable safe, compliant, and efficient manufacturing operations. The Director oversees owned and leased facilities globally, driving facilities strategy aligned with business growth, operational excellence, and regulatory requirements. Operating within a highly matrixed global organization, the Director leads facilities management governance, capital engineering execution, and real estate portfolio optimization while maintaining full P&L accountability for a large-scale annual operating and capital budget. The role partners closely with Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, EHS, Finance, and IT to ensure facilities and infrastructure support business continuity, capacity expansion, and long-term enterprise value creation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in science, engineering or related discipline(s).
  • 10+ years of experience leading a team (direct reports or projects) or equivalent education and years of management experience
  • Experience in new GMP site startup, GMP commissioning and GMP validation.
  • Comprehensive understanding and experience in startup, shutdown, and maintenance of ISO 5, ISO 7 and ISO 8 Clean Room Facilities.
  • Management of facilities equipment repair/preventive maintenance programs as well as TPM program implementation.
  • Relevant experience in generating RFI/RFQ, SOW, specifications, value engineering, project budgeting, and construction cost estimate.
  • Relevant experience in working with local/regional architects, designers, MEP engineers, structural, specialty professional engineers.
  • Proven success in managing and delivering cross-functional tasks with effective liaison between EH&S, IT, Security and Procurement, including external contractors, vendors, professional consultants, and Fire/Building/Planning/governmental agencies.
  • Capital expenditure and project management experience.
  • Must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all environmental and safety laws and regulations, including the Company’s environmental and safety policies and procedures.
  • Must be able to understand GREEN building initiatives.
  • Knowledge and experience applying continuous improvement tools and methodologies.
  • Ability to travel 30% of the time, or more, as role requires.
  • Periodic International travel required as well as travel to and attendance at Medical Device Industry related events throughout the U.S. Europe and Asia.

Responsibilities

  • Global Facilities & Real Estate Strategy Own the global real estate and facilities portfolio, including leased and owned assets across manufacturing, laboratories, warehouses, and office environments. Lead lease administration, renewals, negotiations, portfolio optimization, and exit strategies in partnership with Legal and Finance. Provide executive-level insight into portfolio utilization, capacity, risk, cost structure, and lifecycle planning. Support site selection, expansion, consolidation, and manufacturing footprint optimization initiatives.
  • Facilities Management Governance & Operating Model Establish and govern enterprise-wide facilities management (FM) standards, policies, and performance metrics. Define and own the insource vs. outsource strategy for facilities operations, maintenance, and technical services. Lead and influence a matrix organization, coordinating closely with: Integrated Facilities Management (IFM) service providers Capital Engineering and Project Management teams Corporate EHS / EOHSS Global Energy & Sustainability IT, Security, and other enabling functions Manage global FM vendors and service providers, ensuring SLA performance, cost control, and service consistency across regions.
  • Capital Engineering & Asset Management Lead a global team of project engineers responsible for executing large, complex capital projects in regulated life sciences manufacturing environments, including: New manufacturing facilities and expansions Process, cleanroom, and utility infrastructure upgrades Capacity expansion and automation enablement Compliance remediation and site modernization Develop and execute long-range asset management and capital investment strategies aligned with manufacturing demand and product pipelines. Ensure capital projects are delivered on time, on budget, safely, and in compliance with GMP, FDA, ISO, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Financial Ownership & Value Creation Drive cost-efficient facilities operations while enabling manufacturing performance, reliability, and compliance. Lead transformation initiatives that streamline facilities operations and deliver measurable cost savings and productivity improvements. Optimize total cost of ownership through portfolio rationalization, energy efficiency, vendor leverage, and lifecycle optimization.
  • Regulatory Compliance, Risk & Business Continuity Oversee regulatory compliance and risk management across all facilities, ensuring adherence to GMP, FDA, ISO, EHS, and local regulatory requirements. Partner with Quality and Operations to ensure facilities infrastructure supports validated manufacturing and uninterrupted production. Develop and implement business continuity and disaster recovery plans to protect critical manufacturing operations and supply continuity.
  • People Leadership & Organizational Development Lead, mentor, and develop a global, multi-site team of facilities engineering and capital project professionals. Foster a culture of accountability, safety, continuous improvement, and engineering excellence. Build scalable organizational structures capable of supporting growth, acquisitions, and geographic expansion.
  • Executive & Cross-Functional Partnership Collaborate with senior executives to align facilities engineering and real estate strategy with manufacturing, supply chain, and corporate growth objectives. Serve as the enterprise authority for facilities engineering, and real estate portfolio management. Present capital plans, portfolio performance, and risk assessments to executive leadership and governance committees.
