About The Position

The Director of Global Engineering for Infectious Disease Rapid Diagnostics will lead engineering strategy and execution across our global manufacturing network including facility analysis, site master planning, asset utilization, and capital planning to maximize the utilization and productivity for the Infectious Disease asset base. This role is responsible for molding, packaging, automation, capital project management, and driving network strategy programs such as the US transformation. The Director will ensure operational excellence, scalability, and innovation in engineering processes to support business growth and compliance with global standards for New Product Introduction and Sustaining programs. The Director will: Serve as the Infectious Disease representative on the Abbott Engineering Executive Council Mentor aspiring engineers within Abbott Establish and maintain ongoing communications with key leaders throughout the network to understand and plan for their facility, infrastructure and capital needs Establish and maintain productive relationships with external engineering firms such as for architecture, construction, automation, and molding to ensure quality, cost and schedule requirements are met Ensure compliance with applicable quality and regulatory requirements Create and maintain an efficient, highly motivated, global engineering organization

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree (± 16 years) Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or related field)
  • Minimum 12 years experience in regulated industries (medical devices, diagnostics, or pharmaceuticals).
  • Excellent problem-solving capability, and demonstrated experience with Lean, Six Sigma, and Industry 4.0 technologies.
  • Financial acumen for managing large-scale budgets and investments.
  • Proven experience in a variety of engineering disciplines such as molding, packaging, automation, capital project management etc
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally (25-50%).

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement global engineering strategies aligned with business objectives and operational goals.
  • Manufacturing Excellence: Oversee engineering for molding, packaging, and automation systems across multiple global sites.
  • Capital Projects: Own the Infectious Disease Operations capital budget and lead planning, budgeting, and execution of investments to optimize manufacturing capabilities. Expected to be $50MM per year.
  • Program Management: Lead strategic network evaluations and drive strategic programs, including plant consolidation and network optimization, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with global standards.
  • Innovation & Continuous Improvement: Introduce advanced technologies and automation solutions to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Global Collaboration: Partner with functional leaders, Global Procurement, and external automation suppliers to ensure consistency and compliance.
  • Team Leadership: Build and develop a high-performing Global Engineering team, fostering a culture of safety, quality, and innovation.
  • Compliance: Ensure adherence to regulatory requirements and company standards across all engineering activities.
