About The Position

The Director, Global Compensation is responsible for developing, implementing, and managing comprehensive compensation strategies and programs that support the organization's business objectives and talent needs worldwide. This role will lead the design and execution of global compensation frameworks, including base pay, short-term incentives (STI), sales compensation, and executive compensation. The Director will partner closely with the Head of Total Rewards, HRBP, business leaders, and external advisors to ensure competitive, equitable, and compliant practices across all regions. This position is an exciting opportunity to work with Medtronic's Diabetes business. Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes division to promote future growth and innovation within the business and reallocate investments and resources across Medtronic, subject to applicable information and consultation requirements. This separation provides our team with a bold opportunity to unleash our potential, enabling us to operate with greater speed and agility. As a separate entity, we anticipate leveraging increased investments to drive meaningful innovation and enhance our impact on patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with 10+ years of progressive compensation experience, including global program design and management, or an advanced degree with 8+ years of progressive compensation experience, including global program design and management. In addition, 7+ years of management experience is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's degree or relevant certification (e.g., CCP) preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in short-term incentive, sales compensation, and executive compensation for public companies.
  • Strong analytical, project management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities, with experience influencing senior leadership.
  • In-depth knowledge of global compensation regulations and market practices.
  • Experience working in a large, matrixed, multinational environment preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and governance of global compensation programs, ensuring alignment with business strategy and market best practices.
  • Oversee the design, administration, and communication of short-term incentive (STI) plans, including eligibility, performance metrics, and payout processes.
  • Develop and manage sales compensation programs in partnership with Finance that drive performance and support business growth, ensuring alignment with sales strategies and market competitiveness.
  • Provide support for executive compensation programs, including base salary, annual and long-term incentives, and equity-based compensation (in partnership with the Equity Manager), ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and alignment with shareholder interests.
  • Provide expert consultation and guidance to HR business partners and senior leaders on compensation-related matters, including market analysis, job evaluation, and pay equity.
  • Monitor global compensation trends, regulatory changes, and industry best practices to inform program design and ensure ongoing competitiveness and compliance.
  • Lead the annual compensation review process, including salary planning, incentive calculations, and compensation-related communications.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Legal, and external consultants to ensure effective governance, reporting, and compliance for all compensation programs.
  • Analyze compensation data and prepare reports and presentations for senior leadership and the Board of Directors, as needed.
  • Support global M&A activities and integration efforts from a compensation perspective.
  • Manage and develop a high-performing compensation team.
