Requirements

  • Degree qualified Engineer or Geoscientist
  • Competent/Qualified Geotechnical Engineer registered with a national/international industry body
  • Extensive experience in managing open pit geotechnical/technical teams
  • Ability to influence without direct responsibility
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated capability to deliver step changes in geotechnical systems or processes
  • Expertise in open pit geotechnical engineering practices, designs, and applications
  • Advanced knowledge of numerical modeling techniques and geotechnical monitoring systems
  • Proficiency in English; second language (Spanish, French, Dutch) is an asset
  • Ability to travel to domestic and international mine or project sites

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain geotechnical standards and guidelines for open pit mining
  • Lead and resource internal audits, Geotechnical Review Boards, and Fatal Risk Management reviews
  • Conduct annual reviews of operational plans to manage geotechnical risks
  • Support site teams with SME assistance in open pit mine design and operations
  • Lead geotechnical design for open pit stage gate studies
  • Provide technical development to corporate and site engineering teams
  • Initiate technical peer reviews and manage external relationships for geotechnical innovation
  • Track, review, and embed learning from geotechnical events and incident investigations
  • Ensure geotechnical actions from audits and reviews are tracked and communicated to leadership stakeholders
