The Office of Chief Medical Examiner investigates cases of persons who die within New York City from criminal violence, by accident, by suicide, suddenly when in apparent health, when unattended by a physician, in a correctional facility or in any suspicious or unusual manner or where an application is made pursuant to law for a permit to cremate a body of a person. The Director will manage the Forensic Autopsy Services Unit (FASU), Forensic Radiography Unit, Forensic Photography Unit, Forensic Pathology Coordinators, and the Medical Examiner Support Unit (MESU). The Director is responsible for ensuring that all technical, operational, and administrative services supporting forensic pathology are delivered safely, efficiently, and in accordance with professional, legal, and accreditation standards. This position is integral to the effective functioning of OCME’s forensic pathology operations and requires a leader with strong communication skills, expert judgment, and the ability to manage complex, high-volume technical services across multiple sites.
