About The Position

The Director for the Office of Work Ready Skills at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is responsible for leading initiatives that equip students with essential skills for the workforce. Requirements

• Doctoral degree in education or special education with four years of public education experience including three years in an administrative capacity.
• Master's degree in education or special education with six years of public education experience including four years in an administrative capacity.
• Thorough knowledge of modern theories and practices of work-ready skills.
• Demonstrated ability to articulate the Portrait of a Graduate, Service Learning, and Character Education programs.

Nice To Haves

• Experience in public education in North Carolina or understanding of state laws and regulations in other states.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups and maintain effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

• Support programs in schools and districts to equip students with essential skills for the workforce.
• Collaborate with the Office of Career and Technical Education and the Office of Teaching and Learning to align work-ready skills with academic standards.
• Develop or recommend a service-learning definition and program framework based on research and stakeholder feedback.
• Support the implementation of the Portrait of a Graduate framework in schools and public school units.
• Work closely with the State School of Character program to qualify applicants for National Schools of Character.
