About The Position

The Director for the Office of Athletics at the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction is responsible for overseeing all aspects of athletics within the department. This role serves as the primary contact for athletic programs, ensuring compliance with relevant rules and regulations, and providing guidance to school district athletic directors across the state. The director will collaborate closely with various stakeholders, including the North Carolina High School Athletic Association and the State Board of Education, to support and enhance athletic programs for middle and high school students.

Requirements

• Doctoral degree in education or special education from an accredited institution and four years of experience in public education, including three years in an administrative or supervisory capacity.
• Master's degree in education or special education from an accredited institution and six years of experience in public education, including a minimum of four years in an administrative capacity.
• Thorough knowledge of best practices for middle and high school athletic programs.
• Knowledge of state and federal laws governing public school athletics in North Carolina.
• Ability to communicate complex topics effectively to diverse groups.

Responsibilities
