About The Position
The Director of the Counseling Center at Marshall University is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the administration, planning, implementation, and evaluation of all services provided by the center. This position is crucial in promoting students' personal development and psychological well-being through various services, including individual and group therapy, outreach programming, training, consultation, crisis intervention, and assessment. The Director will supervise both professional and support staff, including student graduate assistants and interns, while also managing the budget and overseeing contractual psychiatric services and unit policies and procedures. In this role, the Director will engage in effective communication and collaboration with other university departments to ensure the Counseling Center's services are well-coordinated. Financial responsibility is a key aspect of the position, requiring the preparation of budgets and supervision of all expenditures to ensure the center operates within its financial means. The Director will also be responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing training and educational outreach programs to provide effective and appropriate services to students. Crisis intervention is a critical component of the role, as the Director must ensure that students' needs are met during emergencies, coordinating and providing crisis intervention services as necessary. The Director will serve on various university committees, including the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT), to provide input and support to other units within the university. Regular staff meetings will be conducted to promote communication within the unit, and the Director will monitor clinical records to ensure compliance and effectiveness. The Director will also play a vital role in recruiting, selecting, training, and supervising Counseling Center personnel, ensuring continuity of care for students. Professional development is emphasized, with the expectation that the Director remains competent and current through ongoing education and professional contacts. Overall, the Director contributes to the success of the Counseling Center by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
