About The Position

Under the direction of the Associate Executive of Business Operations & Development, this position provides leadership, strategy, and vision for the Development Department. The role advances The Arc Allegany-Steuben’s strategic objectives through comprehensive fund development, marketing and communications, community relations, project management, and consultation on program development. This position plays a key role in strengthening the organization’s financial sustainability, public presence, and community impact.

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, public relations, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in grant writing and management, fundraising, marketing, project management, nonprofit development, and/or community relations.
  • Minimum of two years of supervisory experience.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the organizational strategic planning process, assessing the feasibility of short- and long-term funding goals and identifying the most effective methods to achieve them, including fundraising, grant acquisition, and major donor engagement.
  • Plan, implement, and evaluate activities required to generate the funding necessary to meet established goals.
  • Assist in building and sustaining a diversified revenue stream to support organizational growth and stability.
  • Develop and implement a systematic fundraising strategy that ensures a consistent and expanding revenue stream.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors, maintaining strong and ongoing relationships.
  • Create and execute strategies to build and sustain a robust annual individual donor base, including management of annual giving campaigns.
  • Attend relevant events, conferences, and networking opportunities to cultivate donors and prospective supporters.
  • Establish and oversee an annual fundraising, events, and donor engagement plan.
  • Oversee the organization and execution of membership drives.
  • Implement and manage a Planned Giving Program, including tracking legacy and bequest gifts, ensuring fulfillment of donor requests, and managing related correspondence.
  • Oversee the development and execution of an annual calendar of fundraising events.
  • Establish and implement an annual grant management plan, including funding priorities, proposal submission goals, and projected grant revenue.
  • Research and identify grant opportunities aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic plan, sharing opportunities with appropriate departments to assess needs and priorities.
  • Oversee all aspects of grant proposal development, including writing, budgeting, timeline management, and submission in accordance with funder requirements and deadlines.
  • Maintain complete and accurate records for all grants awarded.
  • Coordinate grant transitions to Project Teams as needed and monitor compliance with reporting schedules, ensuring timely submission of all programmatic and progress reports.
  • Collaborate with Project Teams on grant closeout activities and completion of all final reporting requirements.
  • Research private foundation prospects and develop strategies for securing new funding or renewing existing support.
  • Serve as liaison to foundations and funding organizations, building relationships with program officers and effectively presenting cases for support.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement, monitor, evaluate, and analyze projects across the organization.
  • Provide strategic insight and recommendations related to complex business challenges and active initiatives.
  • Utilize data, tools, and best practices to improve efficiency and effectiveness of project implementation.
  • Develop and implement clear processes that promote associate understanding of project goals, expectations, and outcomes.
  • Provide ongoing support to end users and stakeholders related to project guidelines and workflows.
  • Lead and facilitate project meetings with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Design and prepare special-purpose reports as required.
  • Support and refine the organization’s evolving vision and communications strategy.
  • Lead internal and external communications to ensure consistent messaging and brand alignment.
  • Direct public relations and legislative advocacy efforts, maintaining strong relationships with community leaders, government officials, and partner organizations.
  • Oversee development and public affairs communications, including newsletters, presentations, executive correspondence, speeches, and general messaging materials.
  • Prepare and distribute press releases and identify media opportunities in collaboration with internal departments.
  • Oversee development and implementation of integrated marketing and communications strategies, including public relations, media relations, digital communications, online giving, storytelling, and brand experience.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively across multiple platforms to reach diverse audiences.
  • Serve as an effective public speaker and presenter.
  • Oversee social media platforms, website management, digital marketing initiatives, and media relations.
  • Ensure departmental goals align with organization-wide priorities.
  • Identify and implement strategies to engage and expand volunteer involvement.
  • Oversee the management of The Arc Allegany-Steuben’s Special Olympics Program.
  • Collaborate with program teams to support continuous improvement and excellence in service delivery.
  • Assist in identifying, developing, and implementing tools and resources that enhance program quality and operational efficiency.
  • Support the creation and implementation of promotional materials necessary for program growth and sustainability.
  • Prepare requisitions and vouchers related to events and development activities.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets within assigned oversight areas.
  • Establish and monitor annual fundraising and donation goals for the agency.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable regulatory and governing bodies, including Arc NY, agency by-laws, personnel policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, secure, and confidential records of governing documents, policies, and regulatory materials, including Arc NY and The Arc Allegany-Steuben Foundation.
  • Review, revise, and distribute policies, procedures, manuals, and forms as directed.
  • Respect and uphold individuals’ rights to privacy and confidentiality in all forms of communication.
  • Work collaboratively and respectfully with colleagues across the organization.
  • Review all marketing materials to ensure consistency and community visibility.
  • Develop and deliver presentations to internal and external audiences and community groups.
  • Represent The Arc Allegany-Steuben at community events and coordinate agency participation as appropriate.
  • Oversee implementation and consistent use of The Arc Allegany-Steuben brand.
  • Oversee development and distribution of brochures, flyers, and informational materials to enhance public awareness.
  • Engage and encourage associates to participate in marketing and outreach efforts.
  • Promote an environment that supports optimal personal development and well-being.
  • Practice standard precautions and appropriate infection control measures.
  • Identify facility projects and improvements that ensure safe, accessible, and supportive environments.
  • Support, coach, supervise, and evaluate members of the Development Team.
  • Ensure associates complete and maintain required trainings and certifications.
  • Conduct orientation evaluations and annual performance reviews.
  • Manage associate performance by setting clear expectations, providing feedback, and addressing issues promptly.
