The Office of the Vice-Provost for Academic Innovation (OVPAI) works to promote and support excellence and innovation in teaching at Cornell. Working with college, department, faculty and student leaders, we seek to extend the standing and commitment of Cornell as a community of teachers, grounded in common pedagogical purposes and practices (building from distinct disciplinary strengths and traditions), a common interest in ongoing learning and improvement (including as guided by educational theory and research), and a shared commitment to evolving and renewing our pedagogical practice through feedback, experiment, collaboration, and innovation. The Opportunity Under the supervision of the Vice Provost for Academic Innovation (working closely with the Executive Director of the Center for Teaching Innovation and the Vice Provost for AI Strategy), the Director for AI Literacy will collaborate with the university-wide AI Strategy Council, the Center for Teaching Innovation, eCornell, School for Continuing Education, Cornell University Library, college leadership, and other relevant units to define strategic priorities and while leading and partnering on effective implementation of programs that expand, improve, and scale AI literacy efforts across and beyond campus. Partnering with the units above, the Director of AI Literacy will create, curate and direct a range of literacy programs and resources tailored to different audiences; develop and manage campus-wide and extension initiatives in this space; track new developments and best practices in AI literacy in other institutions and industries; and contribute to a deep library of guidance, best practices, and web resources in this space.
