Job Summary: The Director for Addictions Medicine provides clinical and administrative leadership to develop and maintain the Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program at the VGMHC. The Director for Addictions Medicine participates as a member of the management team and ensures that MAT activities are of the highest clinical quality, are consistent across the clinic sites, and comply with all regulatory guidelines. This work will be supported through a strong connection and integration with the VGMHC Mental Health Department staff and services. The Director for Addictions Medicine provides clinical leadership and mentoring of colleagues as they take on MAT care for patients. They work with Behavioral Health Care Coordinators (BHCCs) and other Mental Health staff to build and support relationships with other substance use disorder (SUD) treatment organizations in the community. This position explores expanding SUD services, working with the VG Foundation and other colleagues, through the use of public and private grants and other revenue sources. The Director for Addictions Medicine also provide family practice and obstetrical patient care in accordance with their level of training, experience and licensure.

Requirements

  • Current active license to practice medicine in Oregon and DEA registration.
  • Board certified in Addictions Medicine.
  • Experience in providing patient care in addiction medicine.
  • 4 years of clinical & administration experience in community medicine, required.
  • Proven ability to function as part of an administrative leadership team.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the management staff of the center to align the goals of Medication Assisted Treatment with the overall strategic goals of the organization.
  • Develop relationships and formal agreements with necessary partners (e.g. CODA, Lifeworks NW, YCHHS, etc.) in the community as needed to meet the needs of patients.
  • Coordinate efforts with the Behavioral Health Mental Health Director.
  • Gather support from Site Medical Directors, Medical Directors and the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) as needed to implement programming.
  • Guide and assist in the development of training materials for staff as needed to implement programming.
  • Ensure, with support from the BHCC manager and the BHCCs, that the MAT program will meet regulatory requirements of applicable licensing and credentialing bodies (DEA).
  • Support and participate in development of MAT services at all VGMHC primary care sites.
  • Develop and adopt standards of care around MAT and monitor performance against these standards through peer review process or by other means as needed. Make sure that the special needs of sub-populations (e.g. pregnant patients) are included in the standards. Work with data analytics team to develop reports to support quality goals.
  • Ensure that VGMHC offers MAT and SUD services in a manner accessible to a diverse population.
  • Lead the organization in having a tight integration between physical health, behavioral health, mental health, and substance use disorder programs.
  • Lead the monthly Controlled Substances Oversight Committee meetings.
  • Lead monthly MAT meetings for clinical mentoring and support of MAT providers.
  • With the BHCCs, help design and schedule annual mock DEA audits of MAT program and ensure preparedness for actual audits.
  • Perform the duties of the job description of a staff physician.
  • Temporarily assume responsibilities of the CMO in their absence at the request of the CEO.
  • Handle protected health information in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
