About The Position

The Director, Creative Graphic Content supports and advances the recruiting, retention and motivation efforts of the Army West Point Athletic Association Inc. (“AWPAA”) Division I FBS football program primarily through the independent production all recruiting graphics, creating weekly motivational and highlight graphics, and acquiring necessary content (e.g., games, practices, workouts, events, etc.) for product creation. The Director, Creative Graphic Content is responsible for staying current on emerging graphic methods, technology, and equipment to effectively elevate media products locally and across social media platforms. The Director, Creative Graphic Content must uphold the standards of excellence established by the Head Football Coach and all the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of the United States Military Academy (“USMA”), AWPAA, the American Conference (“Conference”), and the National Collegiate Athletic Association (“NCAA”). Scope of Impact The responsibilities outlined in this job description are integral to the success of the AWPAA football program as high-level graphic strategy and execution are necessary to compete and win on an NCAA Division I FBS level. The Director, Creative Graphic Content has a vital impact on the current team’s motivation and recruiting efforts for future players through graphic highlights and other products. High level graphics are a critical component in the recruiting, retention and motivation process, so the Director, Creative Graphic Content has significant influence on the on-field success of the program. Disregard of NCAA rules can have a similar negative impact. Level of Decision Making The Director, Creative Graphic Content exercises independent professional judgement, originality, and creative discretion in daily graphic content operations and technological needs. The Director exercises independent creative judgment in determining the visual style, narrative approach, and artistic direction of all graphic and digital media content. Final strategic approval is provided through the Executive Director, Player Personnel and/or Chief of Staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or from a four-year accredited institution; a combination of education and experience may substitute.
  • Two (2) years of experience working with an intercollegiate athletics department, professional sports organization and/or other elite sporting organization.
  • Understanding and expertise in all the Microsoft Office suite products.
  • Extensive knowledge of social media platforms (e.g., Instagram and Twitter).
  • Must have expertise in Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Adobe Illustrator or similar graphic editing programs.
  • This position will require familiarity/expertise with MacBook.
  • Solid knowledge of still and video camera capabilities is necessary.
  • Strong professional and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with coaches, administrators, Cadet-athletes, prospective Cadet-athletes, parents, etc.
  • Takes initiative, hardworking, ability/willingness to figure out solutions to problems independently, creative.
  • Extremely organized, detail-oriented, self-starter and intrinsically motivated.
  • Strong management skills; proven ability to multi-task effectively.
  • Ability to independently prioritize assignments and meet deadlines.
  • Knowledge of and ability/willingness to follow NCAA rules and regulations.
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States of America, without sponsorship.
  • Must be eligible to work on a military installation, including a willingness to submit to a background screen.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Advanced degree preferred but not required.
  • Experience with Adobe premiere, Adobe After Effects or similar video editing programs.

Responsibilities

  • Content Design: Independently create all recruiting graphics to include nametags, itineraries, signage, PowerPoints, and offer letters. Create team graphics to be used in offices, team room, position room, locker room, football related events and throughout Kimsey Athletic Center.
  • Shoot, edit and create recruiting and motivational graphics (e.g., daily practice and workout, game, season and others as requested).
  • Conceptualize and originate creative themes, storylines, and visual styles for graphic content, requiring advanced artistic skill and originality.
  • Evaluate and recommend new equipment and technology for graphic creation to stay current with competition and industry trends.
  • Collaborate with Executive Director, Player Personnel and/or Chief of Staff, AWPAA Athletic Communications and AWPAA Creative Services on content creation, creative development and execution of the game products including pre-game hype, uniform reveal and win graphics.
  • Work with the Director, Video Operations, Football Operations and hotel staff during team travel.
  • Responsible for helping create social media content that is an appropriate representation of the USMA brand and is compliant with USMA and AWPAA policies and standards.
  • Coordinate with gameday network producers to gather necessary content materials.
  • Coordinate with Player Personnel department to provide graphic support during official and unofficial visits, junior days, or any other recruiting event.
  • Produce graphic content as necessary for social media and direct messaging to recruits.
  • Assist in recruiting, training, scheduling, and supervising of a team of cadet graphic volunteers and/or interns.
  • Responsible to evaluate individual and unique talents of the cadets and interns and manage them accordingly.
  • Provide inputs on building the right graphic team for gameday execution.
