The Director of FP&A will serve as the strategic finance leader responsible for forecasting, budgeting, analytics, and financial business partnership across R&D, Operations, Commercial, and G&A teams. This role is critical in shaping Alamar’s financial strategy, enabling data-driven decision-making, and supporting the company’s next stage of scale, commercialization, and product expansion. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who thrives in a dynamic, high growth biotech environment and can partner deeply with senior executives while also developing scalable FP&A processes and models.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
  • 8–12+ years of FP&A experience, preferably in biotech, life sciences tools, diagnostics, or high growth technology.
  • Strong modeling, forecasting, and analytical skills.
  • Experience partnering with R&D, Commercial, and Operations teams in a scientific or technology-driven company.
  • Proven ability to synthesize complex data into clear, actionable insights for executives.
  • Exceptional communication skills and executive presence.
  • High level of ownership, accountability, and comfort in a fast-moving environment.

Nice To Haves

  • MBA or advanced degree.
  • Experience in a start-up company scaling through commercialization in high growth mode.
  • Familiarity with cost accounting and manufacturing/COGS modeling.
  • Experience implementing or scaling FP&A systems (Adaptive Planning).

Responsibilities

  • Lead the company’s annual operating plan, long-range plan, and quarterly reforecast cycles.
  • Build dynamic financial models to support scenario planning, headcount forecasts, and operating expense projections.
  • Develop revenue models for existing and future products, including assay sales, platform placements, and service revenue.
  • Partner closely with R&D leadership to evaluate program costs, project sequencing, and investment tradeoffs.
  • Support Commercial leadership with product pricing analysis, go-to-market forecasting, and sales performance dashboards.
  • Collaborate with Operations and Supply Chain to model COGS evolution, capacity planning, and capital expenditure requirements.
  • Provide financial insights for strategic initiatives including partnerships, collaborations, and fundraising.
  • Develop executive level dashboards with KPIs aligned to company strategy and growth milestones.
  • Present monthly and quarterly performance results, variance analysis, and financial insights to the executive team.
  • Establish standardized reporting to enable transparency and accountability across the organization.
  • Implement the reporting function of the FP&A software to enable faster turnaround of model changes.
  • Implement and refine FP&A systems, planning tools, and processes to support scale.
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial modeling, data accuracy, and reporting efficiency.
  • Establish cost accounting frameworks as product commercialization advances.
  • Support licensing and partnership financial evaluations.
  • Drive ROI analyses for product development, clinical studies, and commercialization investments.
  • Contribute to board materials, investor updates, and fundraising financials as needed.
