Location: South San Francisco, CA. Position Summary: We are seeking a Director of FP&A to join our Finance team at IDEAYA. Reporting to the Senior Director of FP&A , the Director, FP&A – Clinical & Development will serve as a strategic business partner to the Clinical and Development organization, supporting a robust and growing clinical study portfolio. This role will play a critical part in managing the planning process, partnering closely with Clinical Development leadership, financial close, and assisting the Sr. Director of FP&A in overall planning strategy and execution. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, show an initiative to learn, embrace a collaborative approach, and thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. This position is based in our South San Francisco headquarter offices and required to be onsite four days per week per our company policy.

Requirements

  • Bachelor degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field; CPA or MBA or advanced degree preferred
  • 10+ of progressive experience and demonstrated growth including a minimum of 7 years in Accounting / Finance / FP&A required; Life Sciences / Pharma / Biotech experience required; Clinical Finance experience required.
  • Experience supporting clinical trials, including accruals, is required.
  • Solid understanding of US GAAP accounting and finance, including preparing financial statements and forecasts
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including advanced excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Deep understanding of finance and financial business drivers in biotech
  • Positive work ethic, superb communication, and organizational skills with a high attention to detail, and unquestionable integrity and personal ethics
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a dynamic and fast-paced environment with the ability to think strategically
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills, a highly analytical and inquisitive work style coupled with a keen attention to detail -- while retaining the ability to see the big picture
  • Proactive communicator with excellent verbal and written skills
  • Prior experience with ERP systems, Financial Planning tools and other financial systems implementations required; Adaptive Insights experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Support the development of enterprise-level financial planning process, including an annual multi-year budget, mid-year budget refresh, and strategic initiatives, incorporating sensitivity and risk analysis and generating departmental budgets and targets for the Development organization
  • Clinical Trials budgeting and forecasting, financial close, and reporting processes
  • Manage the clinical accrual process, including review of applicable CRO and other clinical ancillary vendor contracts. Work closely with clinical development team and proactively interact with vendors to gather and analyze relevant information to ensure all accruals are complete, accurately computed, documented and recorded
  • Clinical Trials Metrics Forecast Reporting
  • Develop and coordinate the quarterly Development financial reporting package for senior management, and the company’s Audit Committee and Board of Directors
  • Lead periodic business reviews to analyze results and key information and provide actionable insights to the business
  • Review and analyze internal financial data to identify issues, opportunities, and trends to provide business owners and senior leaders with financial analysis input to drive decision-making.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with key internal and external stakeholders such as the clinical team, program management team, key collaboration partners, and external CROs; become a trusted finance partner across the Development organization
  • Support strategic external collaboration(s) within the Development function
  • Lead the initiative to implement a new clinical trial accounting system and/or related process improvements
  • Supervise junior FP&A team members, including performing detailed reviews of quarter end accounting deliverables
  • Effectively manage Development expense reporting requests to support external audit, tax reporting, insurance requirements, etc.
  • Understand and maintain Sarbanes-Oxley (“SOX”) documentation and requirements for assigned area
  • Continuously drive process improvement and efficiencies in financial planning and analysis, quarter end accounting, and production of reporting packages
  • Leverage the Company’s FP&A tool and ongoing support
  • Assist with ad hoc tasks as assigned and perform other duties as directed.
