About The Position

The Director of Federal Government Affairs will play a crucial role in shaping the public policy agenda for the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). Reporting to the Vice President, the Director will collaborate with various teams to execute strategic initiatives directed by ESA members and senior leadership. This position involves representing ESA in discussions with policymakers and developing legislative strategies to advance the interests of the video game industry.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree as a minimum requirement.
  • Understanding of legislative policymaking at the federal level.
  • 5 or more years of experience in legislation, regulation, or government relations, including staff positions on Capitol Hill or with federal agencies.
  • Existing relationships with Members of Congress and their staffs, and/or the Administration.
  • Experience with Senate Democrats and tech and IP-related committees preferred.
  • Experience developing policy in telecommunications, entertainment, technology, artificial intelligence, and/or intellectual property.

Nice To Haves

  • Political Action Committee (PAC) experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build and cultivate strong relationships with federal policymakers impacting the industry.
  • Provide strategic vision and leadership for developing and executing program frameworks to achieve public policy and political goals.
  • Implement the ESA public policy agenda on Capitol Hill, including identifying and monitoring relevant legislation.
  • Enhance ESA's presence and influence in Congress by meeting with Members and representing ESA's positions on priority issues.
  • Help form ESA's public policy agenda and political positions on various issues, designing and executing strategic campaigns.
  • Maintain relationships with key office staff to understand issues affecting ESA member companies' long-term objectives.
  • Collaborate with coalitions and interest groups to achieve desired outcomes and ensure positive regulations and legislation.
  • Report on congressional hearings and markups for ESA and its member companies.
  • Develop creative approaches to increase the prominence of the video game industry and ESA to policymakers and thought leaders.
  • Leverage partnerships with external partners and key influencers to impact ESA's policy agenda.
  • Draft policy and legislative updates for ESA personnel and member companies.
  • Prepare position papers and briefing materials on key legislative issues.
  • Proactively report to ESA leadership on project developments and respond to member company inquiries.
  • Draft presentations on public policy issues for various stakeholders.
  • Coordinate and oversee federal consultants, advising them on strategic plan execution.
