About The Position

DePuy Synthes (DPS) Supply Chain is recruiting for a Director, External Manufacturing Supply Integration (EMSI). Johnson & Johnson announced plans to separate our Orthopaedics business to establish a standalone orthopaedics company, operating as DePuy Synthes. The process of the planned separation is anticipated to be completed within 18 to 24 months, subject to legal requirements, including consultation with works councils and other employee representative bodies, as may be required, regulatory approvals and other customary conditions and approvals. Should you accept this position, it is anticipated that, following conclusion of the transaction, you would be an employee of DePuy Synthes and your employment would be governed by DePuy Synthes employment processes, programs, policies, and benefit plans. In that case, details of any planned changes would be provided to you by DePuy Synthes at an appropriate time and subject to any necessary consultation processes. The Director, EMSI, will be responsible for leading a multi-level team who serve as virtual plant managers for 250+ global External Manufacturers (EMs) of varying complexity. He/She will be responsible for ensuring both operational and strategic integration of activities that deliver organizational objectives related to service, product quality, risk management, and cost. The Director will design, organize, and allocate work to optimize both team and individual effectiveness while also providing ongoing coaching, development, and support. This position must connect, shape, and grow cross functional teams to deliver the needs of the various value streams. The role will enhance the long-term DePuy Synthes external manufacturing vision and strategy, including contribution to a multi-year roadmap that addresses DePuy Synthes current and future business needs. The Director will represent DPS interests to strategic EM partners and is accountable for developing, deploying, and orchestrating solutions which maximize value for both internal and external stakeholders. They will foster and advance relationships within the DPS franchise to ensure that each EM’s operational capabilities, including risk profile, meets the objectives and priorities of the different value streams. In addition to providing leadership to the EMSI organization, the Director is expected to work tactically, as needed, to ensure each EM achieves targeted service and performance metrics in the areas of continuous improvement, capacity planning, and NPI launch readiness. This person must have demonstrated agility to think long-term, focus on the big picture, while also solving for day-to-day supply integration challenges.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree required. Business-related field of study, Supply Chain, Operational Research or Engineering field is preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years direct experience within Supplier Relationship Management, Planning, or Manufacturing Operations or related area.
  • Experience in a highly regulated industry such as medical device, aerospace, automotive, etc. is required. Medical Device industry experience preferred.
  • Direct oversight of strategic suppliers is required
  • Demonstrated ability to work cross-functionally is required
  • Demonstrated experience with risk management and strategic planning required
  • Demonstrated track record of coaching, mentoring, and developing direct reports is required
  • Strong written and oral communication, influencing, and negotiation skills are required
  • Proficient understanding of E2E supply chain with emphasis on Planning and constraint theory is required
  • A positive, customer-focused and collaborative approach to problem solving is required
  • The ability to develop data and leverage metrics and analytics to generate insights for continuous improvement is required
  • The ability to work independently and with urgency in a globally matrixed environment is required
  • Proven track record of leading virtual/remote global teams to success is required
  • ~10% travel as per business needs

Responsibilities

  • Lead a multi-level team of approximately 15-20 associates, including 4 direct & multiple indirect reports, across several locations to ensure strong results through effective performance management and development planning.
  • Oversee a global footprint of EMs to deliver business process improvements, analytics and insights, risk management, supplier development, PO to goods receipt, and NPI launch readiness.
  • Align with External Operations Planning on the short, mid and long-range requirements and capacity needs to deliver against the DPS demand and inventory forecast.
  • Design and align win-win solutions across organizations in order to meet business goals and objectives.
  • Oversee the EM Supplier S&OP process and ensure outputs support the global supply plan.
  • Inform, support, and contribute to the end-to-end supply chain strategy for worldwide instrumentation.
  • Understand constraints & other risks of the supplier and their extended supply chain that may result in service disruption and proactively work to resolve.
  • Coordinate the deployment of supplier development / Operational Excellence engagements & resources that improve right first time, lead time, machine down time, backorder & on-time delivery.
  • Lead short term event management (STEM) and long-term structural recovery of issues.
  • Aid in prioritizing activities and resources within EMSI, including the timely closure of change controls.
  • Develop, implement, and direct strategies to assess and mitigate supply chain risks by effectively leading cross-functional efforts.
  • Develop and implement action plans to support talent acquisition and succession planning.
  • Coach, guide and support the team as it relates to critical decision making and communications.
  • Act and lead in accordance with JNJ’s Credo, Vital Behaviors and DE&I principles.
  • Promote, advance, and lead high performing teams and formalized RAPID decision-making framework
  • Collaborate and clarify roles and responsibilities with Source, External Engineering, Quality, Product Management & Plan
  • Define and evolve EMSI integration into the NPI/M&A and tech transfer processes.
  • Oversee adherence to project and resource budgets
  • Ensure compliance with EHS&S and Quality assessments
  • Benchmark other J&J and external companies/industries to identify improvements and best in class processes to support External Manufacturing and other business initiatives
  • Partner with Source Category Management to ensure the sourcing strategy for supplier sites are developed and implemented
  • Represent EMSI interests and inform supply agreements and/or contractual terms that promote reliability and business continuity.
