About The Position

As an Director, Expense Management Reporting you will be responsible for activity engaged in producing various deliverables and providing guidance and oversight of the finance expense function including but not limited to expense management, forecasting, annual budget and planning process. This role is responsible for leading expense planning, monthly and quarterly reporting and optimization of initiatives across departments and strategic objectives while driving accountability and continuous improvement in cost management practices. The Director, Expense Management Reporting position reports to the Corporate VP Treasurer and can be based out of our Topeka or Overland Park, Kansas or Des Moines, Iowa offices. We work a hybrid schedule, offering flexibility to work both remotely and on-site.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of expense management experience.
  • Strategic thinking and financial leadership.
  • Data driven decision making.
  • Professional presence, with the ability to quickly establish credibility and gain the confidence and respect of senior leadership.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite, especially MS Excel.
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of major accounting software packages for general ledger – PeopleSoft, Hyperion and Oracle preferred.
  • Willingness to develop industry related knowledge.
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Able to proactively anticipate issues, provide recommendations and communicate key issues at the right level at the right time.
  • Ability to effectively communicate ideas and recommendations verbally and in writing, while considering the viewpoint of others.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement enterprise-wide expense management strategies and policies.
  • Lead the development of the annual budget, long-range plan and monthly forecast including the plan for strategic initiatives.
  • Manage the monthly, quarterly and annual expense planning process to achieve realistic and transparent budgets and projections while identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to define expected benefits for initiatives.
  • Ensure benefits are aligned with strategic goals and business cases.
  • Collaborate with product managers, delivery teams, and business leaders to develop executive dashboards and reporting frameworks that drive transparency, accountability, and informed decision-making across all levels of leadership.
  • Finalize and analyze the monthly and quarterly reporting package for respective directors and senior management.
  • Create and deliver ad hoc reports.
  • Identify key expense drivers and performance metrics for general monthly expense reporting and benefit realization framework.
  • Provide strong, proactive leadership and coaching to team members.
  • Support FP&A close with variance analysis, expense and allowance metrics, and driver-based expense forecasts.
  • Execute tasks required in expense close cycle including reviewing and completing appropriate expense accruals.
  • Prepare executive presentation for budget and forecast that provide insightful analysis, identify required action items, and effectively frame decisions to be made.
  • Establish and maintain expense controls, governance frameworks, and compliance standards.
  • Oversee expense reporting systems, tools and data analytics to ensure accuracy and transparency.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to optimize cost structures and operational efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with business partners and cross-functional teams; and support senior leaders with special projects or ad-hoc analysis.
