Director, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) – Molecular & LTG Business Job Summary The Director, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) for the Molecular and LTG business will drive strategic, technical, and operational EHS excellence across multiple North American sites supporting our Molecular and LTG product portfolios. This role focuses exclusively on Environmental, Health, Safety, Biosafety, and Regulatory compliance—without facilities management responsibilities—to align with competitive industry structures and attract top EHS leadership talent. The Director will serve as the company’s senior EHS leader for the Molecular and LTG business, developing and implementing forward-thinking EHS strategies, ensuring regulatory compliance, reducing operational risk, and embedding a strong safety culture across labs, manufacturing environments, field operations, and corporate functions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health, Biosciences, Engineering, or related field required.
  • 10+ years of progressive EHS experience, with at least 5 years in the life sciences, diagnostics, medical device, or biopharmaceutical industry.
  • Strong background in laboratory, biosafety, and manufacturing EHS.
  • Proven leadership experience managing EHS teams across multi‑site operations.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT, biosafety, hazardous waste, and chemical safety regulations.
  • Excellent communication, influence, and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated success leading change in scientific and technical environments.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.
  • Must be able to use required PPE and meet biosafety environment requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in a scientific, engineering, or EHS‑related field strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting regulated environments (FDA, ISO 13485, GMP) preferred.
  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)
  • Certified Biological Safety Professional (CBSP) or RBP
  • OSHA, EPA, or laboratory safety certifications
  • Ability to travel up to 40% domestically; occasional international travel (~10%).

Responsibilities

  • EHS Strategy & Leadership Develop and execute a comprehensive EHS strategy tailored to Molecular and LTG operations.
  • Serve as the primary EHS subject matter expert for leadership teams, providing expert counsel on risk mitigation, regulatory trends, corrective action planning, and safety performance.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives aligned with ISO, OSHA, EPA, and biosafety standards.
  • Champion a proactive safety culture focused on accountability, empowerment, and scientific excellence.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management Interpret federal, state, and local EHS, EPA, OSHA, biosafety, chemical hygiene, radiation safety, and hazardous waste regulations and ensure compliance across all Molecular and LTG sites.
  • Develop and maintain compliance programs, inspection protocols, SOPs, and emergency response procedures.
  • Ensure proper management of hazardous materials, biohazardous waste, chemicals, and controlled substances.
  • Oversee EHS audits, risk assessments, incident investigations, and CAPA execution.
  • Laboratory & Manufacturing EHS Oversight Support safe operations in high‑complexity R&D, diagnostic assay development, reagent manufacturing, and molecular instrument production environments.
  • Drive best‑in-class laboratory safety practices, including biosafety level compliance, ergonomics, ventilation, PPE standards, and chemical hygiene programs.
  • Partner with R&D and Manufacturing leadership to integrate EHS into design, process changes, and new product introduction.
  • EHS Programs & Training Develop and lead robust EHS training programs for scientists, engineers, field service personnel, and manufacturing teams.
  • Manage incident reporting systems, trend analysis, and performance dashboards.
  • Ensure operational readiness for internal and external audits.
  • Cross‑Functional & Field Support Partner with Field Service and Applications teams to ensure safe customer‑site practices, including electrical, mechanical, and biological hazard mitigation.
  • Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, R&D, HR, and Operations on multidisciplinary safety initiatives.
  • Leadership & Talent Development Lead and develop an EHS team that supports the Molecular and LTG business.
  • Mentor high‑potential employees and build future EHS leadership capability.
