The Director of Network Operations is responsible for the strategic planning, development, and management of the enterprise’s network infrastructure, including on-premises networks, data centers, and cloud-based environments. This role ensures the high availability, security, scalability, and performance of network systems across all Northwell Health System facilities, providing uninterrupted support for clinical, administrative, and operational functions.

  • Leads an Enterprise Communications group by communicating with and developing team members and building consensus for programs and goals that support a business, function or geographic area.
  • Develops and articulates a short-term strategic vision for areas of responsibility.
  • Evaluates, plans, implements, and maintains regional and localized communication throughout the organization; develops strategic plans for enterprise communication services in conjunction with established departmental business and strategic goals.
  • Develops and maintains communication standards and policies and procedures; ensures strategic and operational plans are consistent with readily available and developing technology.
  • Collaborates with management in developing and evaluating communication systems for new project sites and renovations of existing sites.
  • Ensures communication system designs adhere to local, state, and federal regulations and are compliant with organization architectural, mechanical, electrical, fire safety, environmental health, and safety codes.
  • Collaborates with sites to ensure proper utilization of services; monitors and reports on usage; negotiates terms, conditions and costs for all sites; implements cost- Service Level Management & Performance Monitoring: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the enterprise network, including incident, change, and problem management.
  • Establish and enforce standards for network monitoring, availability, disaster recovery, and high availability.
  • Define and maintain service level agreements (SLAs) for network infrastructures, ensuring they align with business requirements and user expectations.
  • Monitor service performance against SLAs, identify areas for improvement, and implement corrective actions.
  • Develop and maintain key performance indicators (KPIs) to track service quality and identify trends.
  • Conduct regular service reviews with stakeholders to gather feedback and ensure service satisfaction.
  • Network Maintenance & Strategic Planning: Lead the planning and execution of network upgrades, expansions, infrastructure improvements, and security enhancements, aligning these initiatives with service delivery goals.
  • Develop and maintain network infrastructures, documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and procedures, ensuring compliance.
  • Lead long-term planning for network growth, capacity, lifecycle refreshes, and emerging technologies.
  • Oversee the day-to-day operations of the enterprise network, including incident management, change management, and problem management.
  • Team Management & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop a team of network engineers and managed service providers.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, continuous improvement, and customer-centricity.
  • Set performance goals, conduct performance reviews, and provide ongoing feedback and coaching, specifically related to network and cloud technologies.
  • Identify training needs and opportunities to enhance the team's technical skills in areas such as network and cloud technologies, IT service management frameworks, ITSM, and ITIL.
  • Manage team schedules and ensure adequate coverage for network operations, event monitoring, incident response, service management, and service delivery support.

  • Bachelors Degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
  • Minimum of seven (7) years progressively responsible related work experience including familiarity daily enterprise communication operations and leadership, required.
  • 10+ years of experience in IT networking, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience managing large, distributed, and hybrid (cloud/on-prem) networks.
  • Deep understanding of network infrastructure, Cisco, Palo Alto, SD-WAN, Routing, Switching, Wireless, and VPN technologies.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience in healthcare or other regulated environments preferred.
