The Director of Enterprise Applications Maintenance and Support provides strategic management and oversight of the teams that manage the specifications process and implementation of Student Information System Applications (Ellucian Banner) and related Integrations for use by students and Administrative staff and faculty. This role will provide leadership in the development of solutions for technology and direct and manage programming staff in the implementation, enhancement and maintenance of systems. This position directs and manages programming staff in the development, implementation and maintenance of these systems.

  • Provides leadership in proposing, implementing, and developing solutions that utilize emerging technologies, employing agile/DevOps methodologies (e.g., Student Information Systems like Ellucian Banner).
  • Reviews existing business processes and establishes metrics to improve business processes, as well as support of all disciplines under their direction.
  • Oversees the Enterprise Application Maintenance and Support teams including recruitment, development of staff.
  • Provides effective communication and sustain positive customer relationship with all offices and departments at UTSA.
  • Communicates frequently with senior management on the status of personnel, services, projects and operations.
  • Partners with the functional teams (UTS, Academics, Business) to accomplish shared business objectives aligned with Strategic goals of department and University.
  • Drives the development and maintenance of the Enterprise Applications for Student Information system roadmap, addressing current gaps and identifying future plans for improvements and innovations by partnering with key stakeholders.
  • Executes on the roadmap, actively manage the applications as a set of interconnected assets and manage cross-platform dependencies.
  • Leads efforts to develop and execute a comprehensive student and financial systems strategy aligned with department goals while ensuring scalability, reliability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Leads efforts to develop and execute a comprehensive Student Information Systems (SIS) strategy aligned with department goals while ensuring scalability, reliability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Ensures the health and operational performance of the SIS Applications systems against established metrics.
  • Provides leadership and guidance to all departmental staff via open avenues of communication, clear direction, goals, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Prioritizes projects and ensures appropriate resource allocation to ensure desired outcomes.
  • Ensures achievement and improvement of the operational service metrics and/or targets associated with Applications systems.
  • Identifies, recommends and supports realizing opportunities to increase the value of the systems by extending cost-effective use and/or reducing platform costs through rationalization, consolidation, streamlining.
  • Evaluates and adjusts organization to ensure most efficient, productive team structure and alignment with the organization and university's goals.
  • Ensures that all Emerging Technologies projects are successfully administered and carried out in accordance with organizational goals.
  • Provides input on budgets for area of responsibility.
  • Partners with stakeholders and vendors to determine technical needs, requirements, program priorities, and implementation approaches.
  • Partners with stakeholders to execute on business strategy, create timelines and project plans to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Works closely with other UTS staff to advise and to provide direction regarding the delivery of IT services to the University and identify opportunities to help improve the strategy where appropriate.
  • Aligns applications and cloud solutions strategy and plans with business goals.
  • Develops and maintains IT policies, procedures and Service Level Agreement ("SLAs").
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Computer Science, Information Technology or related technical experience may be substituted for a degree on a year for year basis.
  • Five (5) years of experience in programming, systems analysis, business requirements, state audit and security requirements, and database principles to include four years of management experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience in IT space with a majority as a leader or in a management role. Demonstrated growth over the last few years with increasing responsibilities. Significant Experience in Application and Integrations strategy, development, implementation,
  • Four (4) years of demonstrated knowledge in Enterprise Applications to include ERP applications and some exposure with Agile and DevOps methodologies, application deployment and release management.
  • Demonstrated experience with collaborating and working with cross-functional teams for projects.
  • This position requires the ability to maintain the security and integrity of UT San Antonio and its infrastructure.
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution.
  • Ability to effectively manage personnel along with a demonstrated ability to effectively lead and manage successful implementations of emerging technologies (to include Oracle, MSSQL, Ellucian Banner or similar ERP applications).
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgement.
  • Knowledge of software development platforms such as .NET, SQL, Java or similar tools.
  • Ability to work effectively with a variety of professionals, administrators and support staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large-scale projects and scope to a successful conclusion using a methodology.
