About The Position

Veeco is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead a multi‑disciplinary organization responsible for the design, development, qualification, and support of advanced wafer processing equipment. This highly visible role oversees Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, and Software Engineering teams and drives execution across multiple concurrent development and customer‑driven programs. The Director partners closely with Operations, Marketing, Technology, Product Support, and Supply Chain to translate customer and market requirements into robust, manufacturable products that meet schedule, cost, quality, and regulatory objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical discipline required; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 12+ years of progressive engineering experience in complex capital equipment or related industries, including 5+ years in senior engineering leadership roles is also required.
  • Proven experience leading multi‑disciplinary engineering organizations spanning Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, and Software Engineering.
  • Strong system‑level understanding of complex electro‑mechanical products and full product development lifecycle execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple high‑priority programs while balancing performance, cost, schedule, and risk.
  • Experience working directly with customers, suppliers, and outsourced engineering partners.

Nice To Haves

  • Semiconductor equipment experience is a strong plus, particularly in vacuum‑based, thin‑film, ion beam, or deposition technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop multi‑disciplinary engineering teams (ME, EE, Systems, Software), including direct, matrixed, and outsourced resources.
  • Own engineering execution across the full product lifecycle: requirements, architecture, design, development, qualification, production, and field support.
  • Deliver multiple concurrent development and customer‑specific programs to committed schedule, cost, and quality targets.
  • Partner with Marketing and Operations on customer requirement reviews, configuration definition, quoting, and order execution.
  • Plan and allocate engineering resources aligned with business priorities and operations build schedules.
  • Establish goals, metrics, and processes to improve engineering efficiency, quality, and predictability.
  • Build, mentor, and retain top engineering talent; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and innovation.
