About The Position

At Piedmont Global, we deliver exceptional service and technology solutions that empower our people and our clients to achieve more. We are looking for a high-impact Director of Engineering to lead our growing software engineering, DevOps, and QA organizations. Reporting directly to the CTIO, you will be a key architect of our scaling strategy, transitioning our team into a multi-squad model while maintaining high velocity and technical excellence. Piedmont Global is at a pivotal inflection point. We are looking for a foundational leader to own the evolution of our engineering department as we move from a single product team into a multi-squad organization. The Director of Engineering is the bridge between product vision and technical reality. You will be responsible for the health, performance, and output of our engineering teams, ensuring we ship high-quality software at speed. You will manage a mix of internal engineers and external vendors, reallocating resources dynamically as our product portfolio grows.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience in software engineering, with 3+ years in a leadership role managing multiple teams or squads.
  • Expert level knowledge of TypeScript, React, and modern cloud-native architectures
  • Proven experience building engineering processes from the ground up, with a focus on automation and efficiency.
  • Ability to manage internal teams alongside external vendors, reallocating resource based on shifting business priorities.
  • Understanding of how to measure engineering performance without creating "red tape."
  • Comfortable leading and collaborating across global time zones and diverse cultural contexts.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience scaling an engineering organization from a single team to a multi-squad model.
  • Deep familiarity with modern DevOps practices and automated QA frameworks.
  • Strong alignment with "Shift Left" security principles and AI-driven development.
  • Familiarity with Datadog and Sentry for observability, logging, and performance monitoring.
  • Proven experience working within organizations with rigorous security, compliance, or regulatory requirements (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC 2, HIPAA, or FedRAMP).

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement our transition from one central team to multiple autonomous squads, ensuring clear ownership and alignment as our product portfolio expands.
  • Lead by example by contributing to the codebase on critical-path initiatives and foundational libraries. You will set the bar for technical excellence by performing rigorous code reviews and mentoring engineers.
  • Establish the processes, SDLC standards, and deployment protocols that will serve as the engine for our future growth.
  • Serve as the final authority on technical architecture. You will own the core libraries and high-level design, remaining hands-on enough to perform deep-dive code reviews and solve complex technical bottlenecks.
  • Build and manage the processes that make teams efficient. You will implement and track performance metrics (e.g., Cycle Time, Deployment Frequency, MTTR) to identify and remove friction.
  • Partner closely with the Head of Product to translate business requirements into technical roadmaps, ensuring high uptime and scalable solutions.
  • Manage and hold accountable external engineering vendors, ensuring their output meets Piedmont’s high standards for quality and security.
  • Implement "Shift Left" tools, CI/CD automation, and AI-assisted tooling (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to enhance developer experience and output.
  • Ensure robust developer support processes and system monitoring are in place to maintain high uptime and rapid incident response.
