About The Position

The Director of Engineering provides leadership to a department incorporating diverse technical/engineering disciplines to accomplish business goals and objectives in the creation, production, support and promotion of industry-leading satellite communications products. Utilizes deep knowledge base and SATCOM experience, combined with entrepreneurial skills and instincts, to ensure products are developed, configured and/or enhanced as required to establish and maintain market edge, with respect to technical performance and features as well as time-to –market. Liaises continually with Senior Staff, Production, Program Management and Sales to develop product plans, solve problems and promote the company and its product lines. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: Essential Functions: Leads all aspects of Engineering for a Product or System from conception to end of life. Directs and influences a cross functional organization to meet customer and business requirements. Develops, presents, and delivers comprehensive presentations to the project team, upper management, and customer personnel in a clear and concise manner. Designs, modifies, and evaluates a product from concept definition and planning through production and release. Serves as the central resource for design, process, manufacturing, test, quality, and marketing as the product. Plans and manage schedules and budgets. Monitors the product/project from initiation through completion and/or customer acceptance. Ensures completion of the product/project on schedule and within budget constraints. Ensure that products/projects delivered meet customer requirements and specifications. Develops, manages, and maintains all aspects of project-level risks, including mitigation, costing, and planning. Develop statements of work for subcontractors and ensure performance of those subcontractors. Estimate resource and material needs for the project/product. Develops, monitors, and statuses detailed MS Project schedules. Responsible for driving Engineering technical content, write-ups and estimations in response to proposals (RFP), information (RFI) and White Papers (WP).

Requirements

BS Degree in Computer Science or Engineering fields with 15 years of project engineering or related experience or MS Degree in Computer Science or Engineering fields with 13 years of project engineering or related experience with a technical background on engineering focused developments and leadership.
Ability to obtain US Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

Experience with tactical very small aperture terminals (VSAT) and embeddable modem technologies.
Experience in leading product design & development effort
Experience in managing cross-functional / cross-discipline teams
Secret security clearance desired.
Experience working proposals.
Experience supporting government customers.
Experience with design for test and design for manufacturability techniques.
Experience in Root Cause Corrective Action process and techniques.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in a technical information environment.
Experience with Satellite Communications
Ability to lead and drive a team providing technical leadership, mentorship, guidance, and direction to execute project initiatives to the targeted scope, budget, and schedule.
Ability to clearly articulate direction, status, issues, risks, and opportunities, to team, peers, leadership, business counterparts and customers.
