About The Position

As Director, Energy Policyon the Energy and Sustainability Policy team you will lead the development of policies and partnerships that expand clean energy infrastructure, build sustainability markets, advance consistent reporting and drive AI diffusion to achieve Microsoft’s sustainability and business goals. This role requires a strategic and action-oriented thinker with deep expertise in energy markets and policy issues. You will work across global markets, translate complex technical insights into actionable policy, and collaborate across internal Microsoft business groups and external partners to scale impact and accelerate progress.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree AND 6+ years work experience in energy policy, environmental sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Philanthropies, Corporate Affairs, Government Affairs, Business and International Development, or related area OR equivalent experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's Degree AND 8+ years' work experience in energy policy, environmental sustainability, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Philanthropies, Corporate Affairs, Government Affairs, or related area OR Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years' work experience in energy policy, environmental sustainability, carbon strategy, environmental policy, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Philanthropies, Corporate Affairs, Government Affairs, or related area OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience managing a corporate social responsibility (CSR) or related program.
  • Experience in energy and sustainability policymaking or advocacy
  • Deep expertise in electricity markets, energy policymaking and its intersection with AI
  • Teamwork, cross-functional leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Familiarity with AI and energy measurement and methodology approaches

Responsibilities

  • Develop policy and advocacy strategies to expand electricity infrastructure, advance datacenter sustainability and inform AI and energy regulations in the U.S. and globally.
  • Partner with external organizations on projects that support Microsoft’s sustainability, energy, and business goals.
  • Track and analyze energy market and AI policy trends, providing expertise to support Microsoft’s internal teams in understanding and responding to evolving requirements.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to provide subject matter insights to support regulatory readiness, government affairs advocacy, local community engagement, procurement and investment strategies.
  • Build and maintain strong, ongoing relationships with external stakeholders and proactively identify opportunities to collaborate on energy, sustainability, datacenter and AI policy issues.
  • Draft and contribute to formal policy submissions as well as publications, blogs, and whitepapers.
  • Represent Microsoft externally on a range of energy, sustainability, datacenter and AI policy issues and explain complex technical information to diverse external audiences.
  • Manage services from external counsel and consultants.
